How to use:

Starting Correct-O-Chem
The current version of "Correct-O-Chem" has to be run as Administrator in order for it to work. This is to enable an input blocker that prevents keyboard input when a chemical formula is being converted into its correct notation (nothing sinister!). This can either be done by:
* Right-clicking on the "Correct-O-Chem" executable and selecting Run as administrator
* Right-clicking on the "Correct-O-Chem" executable and selecting Properties, Compatibility and ticking Run as administrator

"Correct-O-Chem" is running when its icon (purple "C" on a green background) is in the tray. You are now ready to start writing chemical formulae!

Using Correct-O-Chem:
"Correct-O-Chem" will automatically convert your chemical formula into its correct notation (i.e. uppercase, lowercase, subscript & superscript) after it has been typed into the corresponding word processor (currently only available on Microsoft Word). It is vital that you type the chemical formula in its correct order in one go; deleting a section of the formula and re-typing won't work (make sure brackets are in the correct place). The formula will be converted when either space, full-stop, return or tab are pressed directly after the formula. Keyboard input will then be blocked for the short-moment "Correct-O-Chem" takes to convert the formula into the correct notation. You can then continue typing as usual.

It is also possible to use "Correct-O-Chem" with an input box. This is done by pressing ctrl + #. Using the input box will allow you to paste in a chemical formula. It will also allow you to make alterations to the formula before you select OK (ideal for entering longer, and more complex formulae that you are more likely to make a mistake on when typing!).

You can pause/suspend "Correct-O-Chem" at any time by pressing the "Pause button. This will stop "Correct-O-Chem" from formatting any chemical formulae until Pause is pressed a second time.
You can reload "Correct-O-Chem" at anytime by pressing ctrl + esc.

Version 2.00 contains 2 new (and experimental) features:

1) Format_any_Formula - Enables the user to format any formula. This should ideally be used if "Correct-O-Chem" doesn't recognise and automatically format your formula (or if you enter a formula that isn't correct!) as it takes several seconds to run. The cursor must be placed directly at the end of the formula for it to run. It can be triggered with ctrl+' or by right-clicking on the tray icon and selecting "Format_any_Formula".

2) AminoAcid - Inputs the linear formula for the essential amino acids. An input box can be opened by pressing ctrl+; or by right-clicking on the tray icon and selecting "AminoAcid". You can then enter either the name, formula, 3 letter identifier or 1 letter identifier.

I'm a student at the University of Southampton am currently in my 4th year of an MSci in Medical Biosciences. I created "Correct-O-Chem" because I knew it would make my life a lot easier (in the long run!). If you find "Correct-O-Chem" useful and would like to make a donation, it would be very gratefully received (and would make paying off my student debt that little bit easier)!

Further Notes:

Please check back for regular updates.

Please don't hesitate to email (or use Facebook) with any issues/bugs or missing formulae that you find.

If you are unable to run "Correct-O-Chem" as administrator and would like a version without the Input Blocker then feel free to email me and I'll make one available.

I am currently working on a version of "Correct-O-Chem" that functions in Open Office Writer. Please email if you require this version and I will work on it a bit quicker!

Thank you for using "Correct-O-Chem"!
