Well if gnome is better, then let it win
unfortunately history has shown that the best product is no winner
but the one with the best marketing is the winner(at least Gnome is very good 
at marketing. I have my own opinions as for the quality).

fortunately free/open software will change that, well I hope.
may be the big corporations will manage to taint that too

I believe that competition is good, but as Bill gates says

but 99% of market shares is better
