is using libxml2 Ok for you?
that is it seems that it is fairly standard among the various desktops (G=
NOME and KDE)
and it is maintained by a W3C guy
right now what I have is xml2 version 2.3.8!
BTW XML in a nutshell from O'Reilly is a relatively good book.
