I am using windows XP and yes i formatted the drive before installing.

It installed but when i try to boot, it says
ERROR: NO CONFIGURATION FILE FOUND
NO DEFAULT OR UI CONFIGURATION DIRECTIVE FOUND!
boot:
 
and whenever i type something at the boot prompt, it says
COULD NOT FIND KERNEL IMAGE: 'SOMETHING'
