Coot Wars 0.4 released

Coot Wars is a battle of you, the eponymous elderly hero, against the insurance racket medical system of today, with only your wits and massive black market precription drug trading to save you. Release 0.4 features a massive code reorganization and a configure script.

DOS binaries aren't being provided with this release because there aren't any user-visible changes. Rather, the source code has been split from one giant file and a generic homework library into 8 themed source files, and use of autoconf and automake to create a truly portable code base.

Coot Wars 0.3 released

Coot Wars is a senior citizen black market prescription drug trading game. Version 0.3 restores DOS compatibility and has more use of color highlighting.

Other improvements in this version include command line options, a bug fixed in the credits scroller, and some interface streamlining.

Since Windows/DOS users rarely have g++ installed, a zipped DOS executable is being provided.

Now go show those HMOs who's boss! ;)

The game's features are largely identical to drug wars, but with satire throughout. Some differences include: You can be healed of wounds from fights by the hospital, which adds to your debt. Once a week, you must take some of the medicines you traffic in for your own illnesses, or you lose health. A "police alert" level changes when you buy or sell obscene amounts of drugs, default on a weekly debt payment, or kill someone -- on a high police alert, higher numbers of police are likely to come after you as you change locations. ... read more
