A cross-platform, open-source, alternative to NIST REFPROP. Based on reference-accuracy equations of state and transport property correlations for refrigerants like Water, CO2, R134a, Nitrogen, Argon, Ammonia, Air, R404a, R410a, Propane and many others. A selection of secondary working fluid properties are also available. Can also make use of REFPROP when available.

In addition, calculations for Humid Air Properties based on ASHRAE RP-1485 are provided.

Wrappers are available for MATLAB, Octave, Python, C#, Fortran and many more.

User Reviews

  • Extremely cool library. I use the Excel wrapper quite often, I'm very happy with it. I've also managed to make use of the C++ and Python libraries, all works great.
  • I am extremely happy to finally find CoolProp, an open source library of work medium parameters (temperature, pressure, enthalpy etc.). This package opens up further opportunities for various visualisation software, thermodynamic studies and engineering. Good work!
  • First totally open-source and computationally-efficient thermodynamic library! Great work!
  • A very clean interface to thermodynamic properties on many fluids.
  • A very nice piece of software, I started using it for humid air calculations. I do especially like the fact that it has water properties below the Triple point. It is quite well structured, the syntax is similar to the Matlab syntax for refprop. For me it worked on my XP Laptop without problem. I have done some random tests against Antoine and Magnus equations for Steam and some polynomial approximations for air and steam. It looks promising.
