The new features we should work towards and expect in the next release :
1. Tabbed searching.
2. Showing search results in a small window within the desktop with an option to open the search results in the user's default browsers.
3. Also doing the same as above for sites the user want to open.
4. Opening folders or drives - Shortcuts for these.
5. Quicklinks to website and other stuff like media files, etc.
6. Customization options - like background wallpapers, colors, shortcuts, etc.

Couple quick ideas just throwing things out there:
* A pop-out quick-launch bar, with customisable shortcuts, instead of using the start bar. Hovering the mouse over each launch icon would give you some quick info, and you could customise the launch icons - or use animated icons.
* The ability to resize current icons.
* The ability to add / customise panels. i.e. gnome/kde desktop environments.
* option for sound
* tab for notepad, and a tab for something like paint, to jot down notes and sketches.
* save feature for notepad and sketches.
* analogue/digital clock as background!
* widgets/gadgets like from the vista sidebar. or like mac osx widgets. You could press a certain shortcut i.e. CTL+ALT+K and the background would change to the widgets view where you could add or remove or customise the widgets. These would include things like world time, weather, currency conversion or whatever. Maybe make it so the windows sidebar gadgets are compatible so no need to script new gadgets. I dont know too much about them at the moment but maybe its possible to get them working in XP? Maybe thats impossible i dont know, but it would be a MAJOR braggable feature;);)
* Plugins
* the ability to watch videos or set a video wallpaper.
Just brainstorming ideas. Let me know what you think, and let me know ifyou want me to start working on something from here..
