I want to create a second database with a lot of confidential material, that I don't want anybody else to be able to update or access - hosted on my PC, but I want to maintain a single global reference file within the main database, and use that file for my second db.

Is it possible to allow a second command line argument that specifies the host/location of the reference file?

Unfortunately, that would require a big rewrite of the database access code.
