( PLEASE NOTE THIS FAQ IS ONLY FOR THE LATEST VERSION OF THE PROGRAM. THE ANSWERS TO THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS MAY OR MAY NOT BE APPLICABLE TO THE OLDER VERSION )

• How do I install the program ?

  • Just place the exe file in a network folder ( please make sure this folder is empty ) that can be accessed by all the users and then everyone can run it from there. It is recommended to rename the file to CHAT.exe

• What do I type my name as ?

  • Type a unique chat name that can help everyone recognise you. If you enter a name that is already used, the program will notify you to enter another name.

• Can others see when I am typing ?

  • Yes, they can. However, they cannot know whether you are sending them a message, a link / network path or a file.

• I can only see the last 10 lines in the chat. How do I scroll to see older messages ?

  • You can scroll up and down the messages list using the respective arrow keys ( to scroll up, use the up arrow key. To scroll down, use the down arrow key ).

• Can I use the same method to scroll up and down the links / network paths section and files section ?

  • Yes you can. You can also access the older links / network paths and files by entering the serial number assigned to them.

• How do I check the list of instructions for each of the sections ( messages, links / network paths and files ) ?

  • Press the F1 key in the section whose instructions you wish to view and the instructions module will come up. Anything you typed before you viewed the instructions will not be affected.

• How do I send a link / network path to others and view and open the links / network paths sent by them too ?

  • Just type "link:" followed by the link / netwrok path you wish to share in double quotes ( Example :- link:"http://www.google.com" or link:"//network/folder" ) as the message or within a message you typed to share the link / network path. To view the list of links / network paths shared and also open them, press the F2 key and you will be directed to the links / network paths section of the program with the appropriate instructions on what to do. You can do this in the middle of entering your message and it will not be affected.

• How do I send a file to others and view and open the files sent by them too ?

  • Just type "file:" as the message or within a message you typed. You will then be notified on pressing any key to choose a file. On doing so, a dialog box will open, where you can choose a single file to send. To view the list of files shared and also open them, press the F3 key and you will be directed to the files section of the program with the appropriate instructions on what to do. You can do this in the middle of entering your message and it will not be affected.

• Will the program automatically highlight the dates and times that I enter in messages ? Can I override this highlight function ?

  • Yes, it will. Dates written in the format "XXXX-XX-XX", "XXXX/XX/XX", "XXXX\XX\XX", "XX/XX/XXXX", "XX-XX-XXXX", "XX\XX\XXXX" and times written in the format "XX-XX-XX" or "XX:XX:XX" will automatically highlighted in green. Currently this function cannot be overridden. A future update could provide this functionality.

• Can I take a backup of the entire chat history ?

  • Yes, you can. Just press the F6 button and the program will create a text file named "chathistory". This file will be saved in the same directory in which the program resides.

• I have been notified by the program that there is an update available and I can download it from the website ? How do I install the update ?

  • If you are the last person the exit the program, you will be notified of an update to the program, if available. Just press the F1 key and the files page of the SourceForge site will be opened, allowing you to download the new updated program. On downloading the new version, just replace the old program with the new one and rename it to CHAT.exe

• How do I get rif of the messages notification on the window title ?

  • Just bring the window into focus and press any key to remove the notification.

• How do I exit the program ?

  • Just press the ESCAPE key to escape the program. You can do this when entering your name and in the messages section. If you do so in the other sections ( links / network paths, messages or the history sections ), it will just let you exit those sections.

• Are there any hacks in the program?

  • Yes there are a few hacks! Just go to [Hacks] to see them all. Please note to not use them when entering your name or when sending a link
