When Console fails to start (for seemingly any conceivable reason), the user is presented with the following error message:

Failed to open Console tab!
The process could still be running (use the Task Manager to find it and end it)

I just spent half an hour rebooting, renaming the ConsoleHook.dll, getting a new version of Console, searching for some sort of a lock file that might be stopping Console from running, and everything else I could think of, to stop the program from thinking that it was still running. Given that there's only 6 files, total, that support Console, I will admit, I ran out of things to try very quickly. I gave up, and decided to run my shell on its own.

It turns out that it was my shell that I run inside of Console that was failing to start properly, not the Console application. A better error message here would be really really helpful. At least something to distinguish between a problem Console is having and a problem the shell inside Console is having.

Please, take a look at the patch 1800055.
