Hi, C4G developers! I just created my confcoord project at sourceforge. Shortly, it is about similar issues like C4G. My approach is not so much coding, but observing what is out there and how we can 1.) reduce parallel developments, at least a little bit and 2.) interchange between conf tools First I attempt to do the following: Writing my own abstract UI. Very very simple, so that talented coders=20 can develop further.into this direction. Investigate if libyui is a useful abstract UI. Write a description of existing conf tools (maybe: conf language,=20 supported conf areas, development status/maturity, which OS/distro=20 etc.) Write some parsers (or utilize existing parsing libs) if useful. So=20 everyone can have his own favorite conf tool, but nonetheless we can=20 share conf data (including conf logic rules). This is a little bit=20 sweat, of course... Apply to window managers, browsers, bootloaders and the linux-kernel's make-process. Maybe: Investigate several languages for system conf, existing ones=20 and general/new ones. Maybe XML, Guile, ((Prolog)). But I can't give a time schedule. Sometimes I may be fast, sometimes=20 slow. Kind regards Peter Wiehe |
