Currently (as of COMTOR 1.4), the Reading Level doclet estimates the number or syllables in a word by counting the number of vowels. This measure can be made more accurate by treating two vowels together as one 'vowel' to count (as is in the case of words like 'treat','count','read',etc) and by ignoring the last 'e', if it appears at the end of a word (such as 'place','estimate',etc).
