Perhaps you could just recommend people to switch to Tridge's ccache
instead?  It even acknowledges being based on the idea you came up
with.  Even though I initially opposed it, and deemed it mostly
useless, now I've become hooked to compilercache and, more recently,
ccache, that I can't live without these tools any longer :-)

This is a public `thank you' for going ahead with it despite all my
negative feedback.
