The Lookup Record dialogue box has been changed significantly (for the better) in Compiere 263. There are however differences between earlier versions and the 263 version which do not seem to be intended.
Problem:
. In C_Order table check the Selection box for the field C_BPartner_ID
. Open the Sales Order Window and select the Lookup Record icon which will show the Business Partner as a selection option
. Enter part of a BP Name and hit enter. This should either display the name of the BP if the partial name entered was unique or it should open the BP Search box. It does neither it simply returns to the Sales Order screen and displays all sales orders.
. Now do the same as above (i.e. enter part of a BP name) and hit tab. This returns to the Sales Order window immediately without displaying the selected name or the search box in the event that it is non unique) and selects only those orders with the selected BP name.
I have only used the Sales Order as an example. The problem happens on all windows where BPartner is selected. I have not tested this with selections other than Business Partner.

The same issue arises with the Purchase Order Number on the Material Receipt
. When the Purchase Order number is set as a selection field on the Material Receipt table (M_InOut) it behaves differently in 253d and 263 and does not behave corrcetly in either version.
. In 253d it was possible to enter the PO Number and the Lookup Record box would find the record and then display the Material Receipt(s) for the PO number entered. If a partial number was entered it displayed the Search Window and failed to display any records.
. In 263 it fails no matter whether the complete PO number is entered or just a partial number is entered.

Replicated.
But if you add a BP field in the look up record it is not working, but if you go in to advanced and select the business partner it is working properly.
