I worked as a Multics Analyst for over a year back in the 70's and nothing I've seen since then has come anywhere near working as well and efficiently and easily as Multics. Multics had the first commercial relational database system. From the first boot back in 1969, the OS would snif out the devices and dynamically link in the device drivers during every boot, no prebuilt kernels.
