I believe the http://freetts.sourceforge.net group has
been trying to kick start a way to add more voices to
their distribution by using Flite/Festival/Mbrola/Festvox
resources.
They were struggling in getting tools made for making
native java Voices. The last update was wrapping JSAPI
around a locally installed MBROLA Synthesizer (Big heap).
See:
http://freetts.sourceforge.net/docs/index.php#Installing
_MBROLA_Suppport
For those who may not know:
FreeTTS is a speech synthesis system written entirely in
the JavaTM programming language. It is based upon
Flite: a small run-time speech synthesis engine
developed at Carnegie Mellon University. Flite is derived
from the Festival Speech Synthesis System from the
University of Edinburgh and the FestVox project from
Carnegie Mellon University.
Will or can Comedia help in this area?
1) Where Comedia may support FreeTTS export
2) Or will there be your own JSAPI spin off where the
TTS Engine will be portable (java made) as well.
I thought of bringing this up while on the topic of TTS
for java. Why not use the JSAPI Spec which comes
bundled with a lite TTS for multi-platforms ?
FreeTTS at this time has really only one unlimited
domain voice which runs on anything XP,Solaris....
Thz for you time.
