We are occasionally getting errors such as "No Dial Tone" when trying to dial out after connecting to hub4com.  I've tested the lines, and they do indeed all have dial tones so I'm not sure how to proceed with that problem.  It appears to be one particular COM port.

We've also seen a few other errors when connecting to dialup hosts, such as decent connect rates (21.1kbps), but then extreme lags while trying to do things on the host (while connecting at 21.1 via local modem has much less lag).

I've also seen a invalid protocol error that went away after redialing (but not reconnecting to hub4com, so it used the same COM port on the server).

What steps can I take to diagnose some of these issues?

I know one test for the COM port giving us dial tone problems I can try connecting locally...  any other steps I can follow to diagnose problems?
