Just a couple further details:

- The problem is not tcp-wrappers related (I know how that works with ssh=
d);

- Testing with the Fedora Core 5 image the connection is made to Linux, i=
t has
other problems (with PAM auth) but not the network.

So, it is a Gentoo image problem.
