yes its advisable to use kernel source direct from kernel.org

without knowing exactly what patches gentoo apply its impossible to know
whether they will conflict with colinux

I'm using the gentoo image updated with all latest version. I don't know
what kernel-config is supplied! I used the kernel-source as installed by
gentoo, then applied the coLinux kernel patch.

Where would I find a 'supplied' config? Did I miss that in the source
directory (forgive me for asking)? Should I have started from clean kernel
sources instead of what is installed by emerge?

make sure you are using a recent GCC
you will have problems if you use the woody GCC

i would start from the supplied config and work from there making any
additions you need

I'm trying to compile the kernel with the coLinux patch, but so far I
haven't yet got a working coLinux vmlinux kernel. What features of the
standard kernel should be *disabled* to get a working vmlinux that doesn't
reboot your PC when you try to start it under vmlinux?

I disabled several things that refer to sound, floppies etc for instance;
basically the things that I couldn't get to compile b/c they required DMA.
But what else should be disabled?

(I'm using the latest snapshot with a 2.6.7 kernel)
