 I just yum installed it into a F11 image and that works fine. How did 
 you install mysql? Was there a /var/lib/mysql directory and/or 
 /etc/my.cnf before? Are the permissions on /var/lib/mysql OK? Is it on 
 the root file system? Do you have SELinux running?
