Oops sorry. Please forget problems with MD and Raid tools. DM is not MD ;-)

Here is a build with options you missed:

DM Crypt is a module. After unpacking the module with:
   tar xzf modules-2.6.33.5-co-0.7.8-r1486-dm-20100623.tgz -C /
And maybe running once a
   depmod
you can use it.
