I've found VNC pathetically slow compared to X using Xming as a server (on the Windows side). Using gentoo with the compiler optimizers cranked up, I've been very happy with the performance of the 0.7.1, although I've had an unresolved problem of intermittent blue screens (with days to weeks inbetween).
