On my recently installed w2k machine, switching from 0.6.1 to snapshot-20041029 causes the TAP device to disappear. I'm pretty sure I got the procedures right in that process (uninstall old driver, install the new), and I _have_ had the snapshots (many of them) working on an older (early 2003 vintage) version of w2k on another machine.
Checking the source of the snapshot(s) it seems the error is in parsing the registry for network devices; it finds the 'directory' for it, but no devices whatsoever. Is this known?
The error message is a short and sweet:
./colinux-daemon.exe -c ./colinux.default.xml
auto selecting TAP
TAP device not found
The config file works perfectly on 0.6.1, and while running the snapshots I get everything up and running, _except_ the network.
Any ideas? I'm not a windows hacker, so the registry thing doesn't really say anything to me,except that different incarnations of windows apparently do things differently in this area. I'd be happy to binary search for the problem, if someone can provide snapshots between 0.6.1 and 20041029...
