If you change the gcc or the binutil version, than the build can be broken. Newer binutils stops on some inline assembler, newer gcc warns about some coding style. I'm not know, why you need to recompile the daemons, if you have gcc 3.4.x ? Colinux 0.6.4 was compiled with a gcc 3.4.4, you can use every gcc 3.4.x to compile your one kernel, without recompiling the daemons, without cross builds. > 2) - simply install a gcc 3.3 on the gentoo colinux then recompile the > colinux kernel This would only work, if your coLinux daemons are compiled with gcc 3.3.x, this was coLinux 0.6.2 or older. If you not to wish to build the daemons, than check first the used version of gcc, where the daemons are build. Download the source of colinux, you want to use, unpack it. You find GCC_VERSION in the file bin/common.sh, these first two digits give you the gcc you should use to compile the kernel. > As a matter of fact I'd like to know if someone has some experience > on 1), if it is feasible and stable (do not know if there are some caveats) You should have more than 500MB free disk space and a internet connection. Than download the source of colinux and run scripts ./configure && make This would download some more sources and than build the cross environemt, daemons and the kernel. After it has finish, you can change the kernel config and start the script build-kernel.sh (or "make kernel") again. More about coLinux building you find in the source under doc/building, this is the file: http://www.henrynestler.com/colinux/source/0.7.1-doc/building.txt -- Henry Nestler |

The same way like in any other debian. Colinux has nothing to do with packet management. So if you didn't find a package named catalyst maybe you just try the libcatalyst-perl you found. Catalyst is a perl framework after all. If this isn't what you wanted search a debian site about the right packet name. |

Dear all, following George P Boutwell advice about colinux kernel recompiling I found a "gotcha" I was not aware of, gcc version has to be <= 3.3.x I'm using gentoo on colinux, with gcc 3.4, same version as the production servers. So I'm wandering what's "the right thing"(tm) to do: 1) - recompile the whole colinux daemon for win32 with gcc 3.4 (and a mingw toolchain) then recompile the colinux kernel with gcc 3.4 or 2) - simply install a gcc 3.3 on the gentoo colinux then recompile the colinux kernel As a matter of fact I'd like to know if someone has some experience on 1), if it is feasible and stable (do not know if there are some caveats) thanks Michelangelo |

Hello! http://www.henrynestler.com/colinux/tools/coxml2cfg.zip This wizard converts a coLinux XML configuration file into new format as simple text file for coLinux version 0.7.x This programm needs no to install. After start must select the input and outputfile. Converter requires, that MSXML.DLL be already installed on the system. It should run fine with any version of MSXML. Check MS Knowledge Base Q269238 for versions of MSXML shipped with Windows & Internet Explorer. It based on nsis-Installer, source is included in the zip file. -- Henry Nestler |

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has had any problems with restarting/reconnecting colinux when stopping and restarting colinux without rebooting Windows? Occassionally, I have this problem on my Windows XP machine. Thanks in advance. Gary Zablackis __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Found the problem... The problem was stupid me, I wasnt uncompressing the BZ2 image. Now I downloaded the debian image and all works well, I can start debian and login as root. What I need to know now, is how do i make colinux seen on the network as a seperate pc? I need to run sshd on it on the same network (192.168.1.0). Colinux is running on my wireless XP laptop (192.168.1.101 DHCP Client), now i would like to assign a static IP address to the Colinux of 192.168.1.3 How can I achieve this as when I do ifconfig i get this: eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:FF:49:21:30:00 inet addr:192.168.0.40 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:54 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:6 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:7729 (7.5 KiB) TX bytes:532 (532.0 b) Interrupt:2 lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b) I see the TAP-win32 interface in XP but i want it to be on the same network as XP (192.168.1.0) Can someone help me on acheiving this? >The registry entrys of the colinux service. Hi, I just installed Colinux 0.6.4 and everything is fine with the gentoo. But when I installed the service as per the readme.txt, and try to start it with net start "Cooperative Linux" in the command prompt, it says it starts but then the service stops right away and in the MS events, i see this: Event Type: Information Event Source: coLinux Event Category: None Event ID: 1 Date: 9/30/2006 Time: 7:37:00 PM User: N/A Computer: YOUR-PHTW5CYNHC Description: The description for Event ID ( 1 ) in Source ( coLinux ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: daemon: service stopped. . Any help would be appreciated... Thanks Kit |

I have no problems with the tap/eth0 connection. The bridged connection somehow adversely affects the Windows ethernet connection without disconnecting colinux from the internet. > If that is right, which connection gets lost? > Only the ethernet side of the Windows bridged connection goes down. |

Mr. Krull: I am using colinux version 0.6.4. It is not being used as a Windows internet router. The ip123.456.789.01 is fictitious so as not to give out my real ip address. These are the network config lines taken from my config.xml file: <network index="0" type="tap" name="colinux" /> <network index="1" type="bridged" name="ethernet" /> Thanks for you assistance. It will never work with the address containing 456 or 789. |

Hi: Occasionally when colinux is operating my Windows network connection drops out. Interestingly enough my colinux internet connection still works. My Windows network can only be restored by shutting down colinux. At first I thought this problem occurred because Microsoft sets to 10 the maximum number of simultaneous TCP-connections allowed - causing event 4226 in the event viewer. Using a registry hack I increased this limitation to100 max connections. Error 4226 is gone from my event log, however, the problem still persists. Has anyone else experienced a problem similar to this? It occurs most often when the cpu is very busy (i.e. compiling code on colinux) or after leaving colinux running for long periods. My colinux/Windows network configuration is attached below. Thanks, Merrick |
