Hi all, I am running the latest colinux (0.7.1), and it seems to be running quite slow. The KDE UI is somewhat jerky because of the slowness, but my main concern is raw processing power. I am hoping to be able to do Java software development at work without having to interact with Windows. I'm willing to deal with the fact that coLinux is only using one of the two CPUs, but I can't justify using it on a daily basis if it takes significantly longer to do my job. Here are the platform details: Host ******* Windows XP coLinux 0.7.1 Pentuim D, ~3 GHz 3GB RAM Guest ********* Kubuntu Gutsy i386 I booted my Kubuntu Live CD and found that it reported the bogoMIPS at 5990.33. coLinux reports the bogoMIPS at 1520.43. That means the coLinux guest is running at ~25% of native speed. I know that bogoMIPS are not an true speed representation, but I think it is close enough to give a general idea of what is going on. Any help on getting colinux up to speed would be greatly appreciated! Paul |

Which memory size do you have configured for andLinux? The default size is 128MB of RAM and 256 of swap. This might not be enough for running the whole gnome desktop. Also, you might want to install the dbus package (apt-get install dbus ). That will solve the error message (but i don't think it's the main cause). Finally, beware of updating to 7.10. The init daemon changed, and it won't open automatically the desktop. I don't have here the details of how to fix that, but it's about creating an init script in some directory instead of relying on /etc/inittab |

Hi there! I am using AndLinux and it`s great! Now I can enjoy using most linux native apps with nearly full speed on windows. :) The standard disk size was about 2 GB, I used successfully the resize tool and resized to 7 GB. Then I done apt-get install ubuntu-desktop. It installed without any error. I hear the start sound, I see some windows and then it stops. If you need any further infos form me just ask. andLinux:~# gnome-session SESSION_MANAGER=local/andLinux:/tmp/.ICE-unix/2938 Gnome-Message: gnome_execute_async_with_env_fds: returning -1 Gnome-Message: gnome_execute_async_with_env_fds: returning -1 Gnome-Message: gnome_execute_async_with_env_fds: returning -1 Gnome-Message: gnome_execute_async_with_env_fds: returning -1 Gnome-Message: gnome_execute_async_with_env_fds: returning -1 alarm-notify.c:366 (alarm_notify_new) - Alarm Notify New alarm-notify.c:302 (alarm_channel_setup) - Channel Setup alarm-notify.c:241 (alarm_notify_init) - Initing Alarm Notify alarm-queue.c:1871 (alarm_queue_init) alarm-queue.c:218 (queue_midnight_refresh) - Refresh at Mon Dec 17 19:00:00 200 evolution-alarm-notify-Message: Setting timeout for 54871 1197936000 1197881129 evolution-alarm-notify-Message: Mon Dec 17 19:00:00 2007 evolution-alarm-notify-Message: Mon Dec 17 03:45:29 2007 libnotify-Message: Unable to get session bus: Unable to determine the address o the message bus (try 'man dbus-launch' and 'man dbus-daemon' for help) ----- There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon. Use ProcessExplorer (or taskman) to see the current command line of slirp after startup. kill the task colinux-slirp-net-daemon.exe and start it again on new command prompt with the same parameters, you seen before. If the error comes again, view messages from this. Any errors from this daemon there? I hope. This would help to find out the problem. CTRL-C the colinux-slirp-net-daemon.exe and start it again. Helps this? True, this is an ugly workarrount to not reboot coLinux completely. Other idea: An DNS problem? Try wget of a website you know from within coLinux with dotted ipaddress. The ipaddress will see with "ping www.google.com" on windows before. Check the DNS on your windows side "ipconfig.exe /ALL" before and after the stopping. Are there different? Have more as one DSN there? Try to add the second and third DNS from windows side to /etc/resolv.conf How many "connected" networks you have on the windows side? Remember: Slirp has no ping support. But, can you get some from your router, perhaps a webconfig or start page with "wget ip.of.your.router", or from other computers on your network? -- Henry N. |

Dear colinuxers, I just installed colinux 1.7.1 under Vista on a brand new laptop. 'Went almost like butter: slirp interface allowed connections to the outside, tap interface to the windows OS on the laptop. However, frequently, after about 10 minutes, the slirp connection dies (at least attempts of reaching the outside via ssh requests or apt-get / I'm using a Debian setup). On the other hand, established connections via ssh remain operational. Here is the information of the setup: laptop connected to network via router modem (DSL) laptop runs Vista, Comodo, Antivir (and, obviously colinux) Today, I'll check over a different network entry point. Any ideas what I could check to see what happens to the slirp when it 'falls asleep'? so far I have not been able to get it back working without halting colinux and restarting it. Chris |

Solved as chdir into a directory was existing with other upper/lower match as the wildcard was given. This line triggers this harmless bug with buggy working directory: mkdir /mnt/c/foo ; cd /mnt/c/FO* Same problem on shell without resolving wildcards: mkdir /mnt/c/foo ; cd '/mnt/c/fo*' Fixed in http://www.colinux.org/snapshots/ for version 0.8.0. Cooperative Linux version 0.7.1 is released now. Version 0.7.1 was long time tested as release candidate (rc4) and is released now. There are no changes between rc4 and release version, so we released the binary from builddate 14-Jul-2007. Users of this snapshot don't need update. The most imported is, that the configuration is a plain text file now. Old XML files can simple convert with the tool coLinux-xml2cfg. This is an upgrate with better performance, better memory allocation, new kernel 2.6.12 and lots of bugs where fixed. Cofs is full usable. Details finds in News and more in source control Changelog. Notes contains interestings about installing and upgrading. Have no START.EXE in XP. It's buildin of CMD.EXE only. This opens a new process ID, and coLinux daemon can not terminate it automaticly after shutting down coLinux. > Can I put this up as a feature request? Yes, of curse. -- Henry N. |
