I heard there is a claim that 64bit colinux is ready. but the developer needs some compensation for the hard work. I suppose that almost nothing is emulated (implemented, instead). I couldn't imagine something more efficient. I don't switch to a 64-bit OS because I would lose coLinux. -- Vincent Rivière |

Hello, everybody can contribute code. I would add every patches, if some one would send it. But the real problem is, that hard hacking the Linux kernel is not the top of the most developers. CoLinux was designed for long time for small hardware, and at a time where no other virtualization was available for free. For now we have better and faster computers, we have hardware virtualization support, and we have VirtualBox for free. This all makes not necessary to go so deep into kernel. Good question. I love coLinux (and also andLinux which is based on coLinux). I would be happy to see further development. But I also know that talk is cheap. If I had the necessary abilities, I would contribute more than just writing the occasional forum article about how to tweak the configuration in certain respects. currently eth0 is for slirp and set to 10.0.2.15 eth1 is for tuntap and set to 10.0.3.16 TAP-Win32 is 10.0.3.17 so i guess that it should be ok.. i mean TAP-Win32 and tuntap are on same subnet. You're not telling us what about cofs doesn't work. Post your entire start-Fedora-10.sh file. This is what I have defined in my own config: cofs00=C:\Users\jaquer\Data\ Then, when coLinux has booted, it's just a matter of issuing: mount -t cofs 0 -o uid=jaquer, gid=jaquer /home/jaquer/Data and I am able to access all my files inside coLinux. Read the cofs.txt file inside the coLinux installation for more examples/details. Yes, eth0 and eht1 should be in separate subnets, but your tuntap (inside coLinux) and your TAP-Win32 (in the host) need to be in the same subnet in order to be able to talk to each other. I'm pretty sure that's what's missing from your setup. Just change the manually assigned IP of the TAP-Win32 adapter to 10.0.2.x. Once you do that, any service running on coLinux will be available on the Windows side without needing to specify it on the config. The ports you set there are to be able to access them from computers other than the host. for server access, I already suggest you try bridge-pcap instead of slirp or tuntap. And check the fedora default firewall setting. to access windows host C: directory all you need is the (cofs). That is the easiest way. i am not able to get ssh and scp working between the host computer (windows 7) and colinux(fedora 10)!! i finally gave up and now would like to know if its possible to move files by using USB drive?? if yes please share any references. I am able to launch apps (like fedora, gvim, xeyes, xterm, kscope, gnome-session etc) on colinux side and see the interface on my host computer. But i am not able to set up ssh or scp session (winscp) from host to colinux side. Basically, I am not able to ping either eth0 (slirp)or eth1 (tap) interfaces from host computer. I am not sure if this has something to do with correct;y configuring the following setting inside start-Fedora-10.sh eth0=slirp,,tcp:5900:5900 ro \ eth1=tuntap,,tcp:5900:5900 ro The above 2 lines have something to do with port mapping incoming requests. I just need some way to move files between host and colinux filesystem. I tried samba share. did not work as colinux 0.7.9 somehow doesn't recognize cofs file system. All the manual available on net put eth0 and eth1 on different subnets. while eth0 slirp is for connecting colinux to web...for services like wget, apt-get, and eth1 tuntap is for connecting to host computer. I am starting the colinux using a script file name start-Fedora-10.sh that came along during the colinux set up process. I selected the Fedora 10 option during the installation process. The documentation says all networking should be up and running automatically. But i already spent 8-10 days and still cannot get the communication from host computer to colinux side.. everything else seems to be fine. i mean i am able to launch apps (like fedora, gvim, xeyes, xterm, kscope, gnome-session etc) on colinux side and see the interface on my host computer. but i am not able to set up ssh or scp session (winscp) from host to colinux side. Basically, I am not able to ping either eth0 or eth1 interfaces from host computer. I am not sure if this has something to do with correct;y configuring the following setting inside start-Fedora-10.sh eth0=slirp,,tcp:5900:5900 ro \ eth1=tuntap,,tcp:5900:5900 ro The above 2 lines have something to do with port mapping to in comming requests. I just need some way to move files between host and colinux filesystem. I tried samba share. did not work as colinux 0.7.9 somehow doesn't recognize cofs file system. Hi Yin, What you said is right i am able to initiate any connection from Host OS to coLinux i cannot even ping colinux from host OS. >>>ps -ef | grep Xvnc the output is root 3095 1 0 Jan06 tty1 00:00:00 Xvnc :0 -desktop colinux:0 (root) -auth /root/.Xauthority -geometry 1024x768 -depth 16 -rfbwait 30000 -rfbauth /root/.vnc/passwd -rfbport 5900 -pn So i guess Xvnc is up and running. my firewall on host OS is turned off, but i am not sure why the request from vncviewer is being blocked?? Regards Raghu. try manually start another vncserver, you should see something like :1 or 5901 started. then ps -ef | grep Xvnc to make sure it is really running. seems your networking only works when TCP initiated from colinux then outwards. maybe try the pcap bridge mode of colinux, instead of slirp port forwarding. the bridge mode will expose all the server port be default. the other possibility is maybe your fedora has some default firewall that blocks all incoming traffic. to move files between host and colinux you can use cobd. -- View this message in context: http://old.nabble.com/Connecting-to-Fedora10-on-CoLinux-from-Host-operating-system-%28Windows-7%29-using-VNC-viewer-tp34857793p34866721.html Sent from the colinux-users mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |

yes, that is by definition. but to make DMZ work under ethernet, the packet need to have the unique destination MAC address. So your DMZ colinux need to be setup to bridge mode to expose its own MAC. those are normal networking setup. maybe you can try all this using virtual box, then switch to colinux, which can give you a performance boost. As I seen: For internet connection of coLinux: IP of eth0 of coLinux image will indicate router's internal IP if assigned with dhcp server. If router's dhcp server is disabled IP should be written in /etc/network/interfaces as static: For instance: auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static #ip assigned as static address 10.0.0.25 #internal ip should be written instead of getting internal ip from dhcp server of router. netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 10.0.0.2 #routers web interface Regards |

Sorry, I couldn't express my thoughts. As I know, if specific internal ip is DMZ, all attacks will go to DMZ area , and DMZ image area is close anywhere. Threats(worm, sniffer etc) will remain in DMZ image. When we assign specific internal ip to DMZ area. For instance: we can test the DMZ zone with port scanning if it is getting port knocking or not. So Isn't it true that DMZ area will get threats? Regards |

You can use samba share which works perfectly for file transfer between coLinux and host. I've noticed that probably VNC DISPLAY is incorrect: >DISPLAY variable setting is (colinux) >172.16.0.21:0 display environment variable should be host's ip. If fedora image has iptables configured internally, it should open specific ports to receive and send between coLinux and host. Regards |

Yin, Thanks for having a look at it. The other day i tried to set up ssh/scp session from WinScp s/w, but wasn't successful. connection keeps timing out. Also i am bale to use yum install to download any packages, but not sure why i am not able to browse using fedora from colinux. since X is working i am able to launch fedora, gvim, kscope (on colinux) and things of that sort. 0.0.0.0 means listen on any network IP address. the output looks correct. I saw your previous email saying X server works. I don't know why vnc doesn't. you may try ssh to colinux, or open a new vncserver session. have no idea now.
