Hi, I run colinux-0.6.1 with Gentoo-2.6.7, it failed to boot. Appreciate if anyone tell me where to download colinux-0.6.2 as this is highlighted in Gentoo-2.6.7-colinux-0.6.2.bz2. Thanks. kockkin ko |

Hi,
does cofs support NTFS? If I try a simple mount like Dan suggested, it does
not work.
I'm getting:
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on 0,
or too many mounted file systems
I assume, that it does not work without a ntfs driver or it can not be
mounted because the partition/directory is locked by windows. If I'm right?
Another question: Is the following line for colinux.xml correct?
<block_device index="2" cofs0="\Dos\Devices\d:" enabled="true" />

Best regards,
Mathias

Ok, I finally was able to do it with Windows 2000. Internet Connection=20 Sharing did not work for me. I managed to do it using the NAT. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/community/columns/cableguy/cg0301.mspx Sorry, I forgot to specify that the Windows 2000 where I installed the=20 thing is a server. I'm not sure if that was related with the problem. I tried out the latest monotone release of coLinux, and found some interesting results with cofs: When a cofs block device is mounted with default permissions, the files are owned by root/root and all are readable. When I tried to mount them any other user/group/permission settings, all files/directories gave me "Permission Denied". I then thought it was a default permission setting, so I checked fs/cofusefs/inode.c and applied a line to see if it would help (from one of Dan's earlier patches): md.uid = co_md.uid; This ended up causing the following error when I then tried to mount a cofs block device: mount: cannot get address for cofs1 Any ideas what this might mean? How is the name of the colinux "computer" set to colinux? I am using coLinux recent snapshot (20041024) with Fedora Core 2. I would like to change the name of the computer to be able to distinguish colinux running on different computers. I have tried to change it via /etc/hostname and altered /etc/hosts and the samba configuration file /etc/samba/smb.conf to match. The name at login remains stubbornly as "colinux" and I get error messages when starting a VNC server, as the environment variable HOSTNAME is set to "colinux". What am I missing, please? A way to really disable Media sensing ? > There are network cards that just won't disable media sensing. Two workarounds exist: 1. Install Microsoft Null Adapter (it 'fakes' a network card), it will never unplug. 2. Use a crossover plug, the network card will sense itself and stay connected. |

Hi! I have a laptop with a Intel Pro 100/ VE network card. I recently installed SP2 and now the Media sensing feature cannot be disabled. This means that when I unplug the cable I lose connectivity between Win and Linux - really annoying. I was using the registry trick http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q239924/ on SP1, but it seems that this SP2 broke that. I don't have a "Always connected" setting to my network card... Is there some workaround to this ? A way to really disable Media sensing ? -- <mack /> |

Thank you very much! Now windows and colinux can ping themselves. However it still remains the problem of colinux hanging pinging any external network address. It can ping the windows ethernet interface (158.42.52.78) but it hangs forever pinging any other address of external machines. Do you think that it has to do anything with the windows routing table? Are routing tables in Windows 2000 like the one I shown in previous email when connection sharing is active? Or the problem is due something else? Try enabling the loopback interface "lo". To do that in Debian, you need these two lines in /etc/network/interfaces= : auto lo eth0 iface lo inet loopback Salvador Vicente Petit Mart=ED wrote: >Hi, I just installed colinux 0.6.1 with tap networking in an windows 200= 0 box. > >Basically, I have managed to ping the windows cap interface (192.168.224= .1) and >the windows external network interface (158.42.52.78). Hi, I just installed colinux 0.6.1 with tap networking in an windows 2000=
box.
Basically, I have managed to ping the windows cap interface (192.168.224.=
1) and
the windows external network interface (158.42.52.78). The windows machin=
e
pings the colinux interface (192.168.224.40) and I managed to telnet to t=
he
daytime port and get a return string from the colinux.
Now the weird things...
Colinux cannot ping itself (it gives error) and also is not able to telne=
t
itself also. It is also not able to ping any external address (hangs fore=
ver)
with the exception of the windows external network address.
This is a excerpt of the tap networking of the conf file:
<network index=3D"0" type=3D"tap" />
I do not think it has nothing to do with it but...
The "ifconfig" and "route" results in the colinux:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:43:4F:4E:45:30
inet addr:192.168.224.40 Bcast:192.168.224.255 Mask:255.255.255.0

default 192.168.224.1 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 Eth0
The "ipconfig" and "route print" results in the windows 2000:

Hai folks, I tried colinux with the cofs0= argument. Works perfect. However, the cofs0= cannot be used in combination with the -c config.xml. So I tried to run the service with full argument list, simply by modifying the registry string and replacing the "-c config" by "kernel= .... etcetera". When I start the service the kernel starts correctly, however, the "state" if the service in the service list stays permanently "Starting". It never becomes "Running". Gert van Antwerpen |

I do the same thing quite regularly. I don't think I ever got UML to work in coLinux 0.6.0, I think I had to move to some more recent version, the gettimeofday fix that's in them seems to be an key in this. Also, I find that I don't have problems with the loop at the Calibrating delay loop if the coLinux kernel is SKAS patched. If it's not SKAS patched (as the distributed version isn't) then just commenting ou the calibrate_delay in init/main.c seems to be enough to get it working. At least that's been my experience. I haven't had time to actually investigate what exactly is causing the loop but hope to some time soon. Most of my experimenting has been with coLinux 2.6.x kernels and uml 2.6.x kernels, but I believe the same is true for uml 2.4.x kernels. > - is it possible to fix something in coLinux (or the UML sources) to > bypass this specific problem. I'd be happy to do that myself, but = > I'd need directions. Yes, in init/main.c comment out the call to calibrate_delay function. Or track down what about that function is failing in coLinux. > - in the event where things work as expected ? Could colinux support > the skas and /dev/anon modes of UML. Again, I'd be happy to help but > would need some directions. As I said, I've actually been able to apply the 2.6.7 SKAS patch to an colinux patched kernel, build it and coLinux userland tools, and run 2.6.x UMLs (in both SKAS & TT mode) quite happily in it. I have an older binary package of that, if you search the mailing list archives (probably devel list not user list) you might find a link to them and you could use them, they might be step 'back' if you are already using recent snapshots. I hope in the near future to compile a more recent SKAS patched coLinux. George ---------------------------------------------------- Need to store your files online? Other effect: Copy 10 files with midnight commander to /mnt/win the commander shows the file size is 0. Afer refresh the box, correct size was reported. A simple "cp source/* /mnt/win ; ls -l /mnt/win" shows sometimes the same effect. Coped files are the colinux daemon exe-files. :-) Think, its a timig problem of asynchron transmission of files and execute the next file command. But filesystem is correct. No errors on Host side (WinXP Home). -- Henry Nestler |

I don't know if this was reported or not, but I'm finding that when I try to create directories on a cofs mount, it reports that the directory already exists (which it doesn't), and then proceeds to give me "Input/Output Error"s when I try to remove, or get a directory of, the created directory. Also, Windows complains that the "file is in use" when I try to remove the directory in Windows. This error is occuring in 20041023 (which I think is 0.6.2-pre3 or 4) and even in 20041026 (I think) which is 0.6.2-pre6. Is anyone else having this problem? Ian |

Yeah there should be a message somewhere like on colinux startup, or in a readme file "if you need help check out the wiki first" ie RTFA ;) Dave -----Original Message----- From: col...@li... Hello,
As weird as it can be, I'm currently trying to run User Mode Linux
under CoLinux. My attempts have failed so far, mainly because the
kernel boot will lock up in "calibrating delay loop..."
(this is easy to test, just launch any UML kernel to see this, on =
debian,
this is as easy as typing "apt-get install user-mode-linux; linux")
I have read the code responsible for this message in the linux source
code, and couldn't find something that could be easily fixed (at least
for a semi-novice like me when it comes to kernel things).
I'm thus writing to the list to know:
- wether this whole thing is possible or not ?
I suspect there may be additionnal roadblocks in the boot process
that could prevent this from hapenning
- is it possible to fix something in coLinux (or the UML sources) to
bypass this specific problem. I'd be happy to do that myself, but =
I'd
need directions.
- in the event where things work as expected ? Could colinux support
the skas and /dev/anon modes of UML. Again, I'd be happy to help but
would need some directions.
Voil=E0, that's all, and it's not a priority for me at the moment, but
I hope someone will be able to answer some of these questions.
And thanks again for a _wonderful_ project :-)

Hi,
I have strange problem with colinux version 0.6.1. In colinux box,
apache 1.3.31 is running as a deamon and sometimes it doesn't respond for
some queries like pictures, javascripts, css. I tried to configure Apache
directive KeepAlive = ON/OFF, but nothing happened.
My configuration:
Host machine:
Win2k Sp4:
Dual Xeon 2,4 GHz
2 GB Ram
2 Intel pro 1000 netcard merge in one virtual adapter in adaptive fault
mode.
Both netcar has offload check set to off.
colinux box:
version 0.6.1:
debian stable
2GB swap_device
colinux.xml
<network index="0" type="bridged" name="Intel(R)" mac="xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx">

Occasionally, I've seen errors when upgrading to new versions of coLinux that involve the fact that linux.sys hasn't been reinstalled (I.E. colinux-daemon --remove-driver and colinux-daemon --install-driver). These errors range from CO_RC errors on boot to "This program has exited unexpectedly." Is there any way to catch these errors and report that linux.sys is not the current version? If not, I understand, I was just wondering for those people who might not know what the slightly more obtuse error results mean, and how to track down the problem. Ian |

The problem is that you have to pass this option via the command line. XML options are not supported for cofs. ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Burela" <db...@so...> To: <col...@li...> Sent: Monday, October 25, 2004 12:07 AM Subject: RE: [coLinux-users] [ANN] Mandrake 10.0 image for coLinux - final > And now that mandrake 10.1 just got released you can start over again :P > Seriously though, nice work man! > > -Dave foo ! actually, Mandrake 10.1 Official will be out in about 15 days. currently, the only 10.1 you can find is the Community edition, and Mandrakesoft will use feedback from this release to polish their real offering, the "Official" edition. for that reason, I currently only consider their "Official" release. and even after 10.1 official is out, I'll wait for a few weeks to hear about any snaffu or immediate post-release correction. Currently, I have set up URPMI to use the rpms in Mandrake 10.0 Official. Impatient users can upgrade by changing urpmi "hdlist" sources to either : Mandrake 10.0 updates, Mandrake 10.1 release, Mandrake 10.1 updates once they start to appear, and of course, Cooker since I don't have any indication on when Cooker or the update sources are working or are broken, I leave that as an exercise to the reader : it is just a matter of editing 3 lines. you can even use this URL to help you to figure that out : http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/ upgrading Mandrake from 10.0 to 10.1 is just a matter of adjusting URPMI media sources and using urpmi.update then urpmi --autoselect. sticking to Mandrake 10.0 official is like sticking to Debian Woody - at least you know it works when you ship it. oh, and it is just a matter of a few minutes to rebuild a new image. I don't expect much dependancies to change in Mandrake 10.1 I took a look at SuSE, too. I think I can use the same technique and rebuild a viable "SuSE from scratch" by using rpm --root option.
