IMPORTANT

Before installing the "ISISLab CoFFEE" version, make sure you

  • uninstall the previous versions (by choosing "Uninstall" in the menu) AND
  • back up files in the CoFFEE directory (by default "\Programs\CoFFEE") like sessions you created or logs/traces
  • delete the directory where you installed the program (by default "\Programs\CoFFEE")

Please, be sure to back up files like sessions you created or logs/traced of experiments before deleting the installation directory!

What's New in CoFFEE 5.3

Here are descriptions of the some of the more interesting or significant changes made to CoFFEE for the release ISISLab CoFFEE (5.3). They are grouped into

  • Bug fixes and minor software enhancements
  • Upgrades to the Quiz tool are been introduced
    • User interface enhancements of the Controller and Discusser component
    • Bug fixed

Quiz Tool

Quiz Tool, that enables the teacher to easily load questionnaires previously created (with authoring system or text editor for simple some formats of questionnaire), and the teacher runs in synchronous mode, by checking charts, real-time, the trend of the course quizzes and by communicating the right answer to the students. Another feature of the quiz tool is the ability to show the results from questionnaire for only those correct answers and shows the wrong answer to the students .

In a learning management system (LMS), the Quiz features can enhance student learning.

A questionnaire must first be created in a GIF, AIKEN or HotPotatoes format and then used by Quiz Tool.

Quiz Tool imports questions in the following format file

  • Aiken format (details here)
  • HotPotatoes format (download program here)

A new theme: Azure theme

A new theme, the Azure theme, is introduced to change the aspect of Controller and Discusser component. The CoFFEE installer, by default, sets the new theme.

The Controller component shows a welcome page, a quick introduction to CoFFEE, describing, briefly, all features of the CoFFEE:

  • Before you begin... page , knowing all CoFFEE components.
  • How the Controller and the Discusser_'... page, explaining how start with CoFFEE component. _
  • Collaborations Tool..._ page, introducing collaboration tools. _
  • Others Tools..._ page, introducing all tools of CoFFEE. _
  • More..._ page, introducing other CoFFEE component to create a session, to import or modify template, created previously. _
  • What's New..._ page, to find out about the major new feature in the latest CoFFEE release. _

Notes

Coffee folders

The CoFFEE working folders are stored under the “AllUsers?” folder on Windows, and under the user’s folder on Linux and Mac OS. The complete path may depend on the operating system language. Below are shown the paths for English language:

Sessions and traces produced by older CoFFEE versions are NOT compatible with CoFFEE 5.0+ versions.

  • The Replayer is not present in the main product installer, but is available in a distinct installer.
  • In the French, Spanish, Hebrew versions, a few strings in English are present

Notes for developers

  • Developement environment is Helios (3.6.0)

Where found .metadata folder of each CoFFEE application

  • Launching each CoFFEE application, the "CoFFEE_Workspaces " is created in the home directory of the current user.

Known limitations and/or bugs

  • Threaded Discusion Tool
    • The copy and paste feature of a contribute doens't work
    • Some layout show the contribution icons of the tool do not fully visible.
  • The DocumentShare tool doesn't work fine
  • Document Browser Tool
    • In the Follow me feature each Discusser sees each slides chosen from the Controller, but each user interface of the Discusser is not blocked
  • Note tool: when the Azure theme is chosen, the background of the tool blends with the user interface of the Controller
