Milestone CoFFEE - Version 3.2 "SeaHorse"

IMPORTANT

Before installing the CoFFEE "Iced CoFFEE " version, make sure you

  • uninstall the previous versions (by choosing "Uninstall" in the menu) AND
  • back up files in the CoFFEE directory (by default "\Programs\CoFFEE") like sessions you created or logs/traces
  • delete the directory where you installed the program (by default "\Programs\CoFFEE")

Please, be sure to back up files like sessions you created or logs/traced of experiments before deleting the installation directory!
Finally, sessions previously designed with the version 3.1 (Iced CoFFEE) can be opened and modified with the CoFFEE Session Editor and are still compatible for playing with the CoFFEE Controller.

Major features

  • Lesson Planner
    • The buttons to go the next screen have been highlighted and a new text "...>"
  • Browse page
    • The description panel takes up about 2/3 of the width
    • When a user comes back to the Browser pageand select a different template, he should be warned that current changes to the session will be lost
  • Summary page
    • Task description is not empty
    • The third part of "Printable Summary":
    • if the "Display Step Details" check box is checked, the steps details of the selected session will be display.
  • Teacher's notes are been added
  • PDF, Html or RTF export creates two kind of print
    • a short print, TemplateSummary_xxxx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx, prints "General Information" and "Step sequence".
    • If "Display Step Details" check box is checked, the a long print, TemplateOnfo_xxxx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx, print "General Information", "Step sequence" and "Steps Details"
  • Edit page
    • Significant descriptions about the strings that describe the tools
    • Add a filed to allow the teacher to write per-step, notes at design time and to see them at run time
  • Session Editor
    • Error handling when a template is saved: check is made only on the session correctness
    • Reminding the author to create the RTF description file: When saving a template, the description file should be created (if missing) and opened. A newly created description file should be based on a "template" document.
  • Now it is possible to write and integrate third-part plug-ins into CoFFEE.

Minor features

  • Printed sessions still have the "Task" field in the step header. It should be removed as it is no longer present in Lesson Planner, Controller and Discusser.

Known limitations and/or bugs

Major bugs

  • Replayer
    • Control Panel: the control panel doesn't show the block/unblock events, the moving of students between groups; sometimes it is not correctly updated about entry and exit of students.
    • In the replayer the user interface of the tools should be blocked to avoid addinng or deleting contributions during the trace replay.
    • The repository tool is not traced yet, and so it cannot be replayed. it is opened during the replay, but it doesn't show events.
    • Pushing buttons repeatedly, (in particolar, "Previous Event" button), the Replayer raises exceptions.
  • IMPORTANT Delay problem of the Player when a repository tool is in a session
  • Reload a session
    • Bug on "import artifacts between steps": when the session is reloaded, the import between steps doesn't work. Details will follow in the

Minor bugs

  • Co-Writer
    • when a client reconnects with the same nick, and has written something before disconnection, he may not receive the text correctly.
  • Session Player
    • Save/load session state: when the teacher reloads a session that was finished, the "finish" button is active (and should not) and it does not work, while the "close" button is not active (and should be)
  • Strings Externalization
    • In the Relayer, are not externalized the strings "Control Panel" view, "File" menu, "Session Control" perspective, "Step" perspective.
