I believe I have solved both problems. Since I had two installations
on the same machine, I gave the 1.9.2 install a different path in
httpd.conf, so that I could still access both of them. Therefore, I
needed to define codestriker_css in the config file. Since I did not,
I was getting a header that did not reference the .css file or the .js
files correctly.
No .css explains the colorization. I suspect the latency problems
were related to this somehow. It also explains why there were a few
other anomalies, such as the fact that the 'help' link did not take me
to help.
I may be ready to upgrade finally!!
