Hi there! I had a look at coco RPM building "process". I'd like to sugest some changes to the Makefile (I attached a diff to the 1.8 release). If the spec file is build an included in the tar file, a RPM (and SRPM) can be easiely build with rpm -ta copter-commander*.tar.gz Therefore I've added a "spec" directive and added it as dependency to COCO_TAR_FILE. I also changed the included file in COCO_TAR_FILE and "clean" to delete the spec files. At last I corrected a typo in the dedendencies of COCO_TAR_FILE (oo-compiler.lib -> oo-compiler.lisp) cu Florian Festi PS.: Cool game! |

When the game first comes up, do you see a semi-truck chug onto the screen and launch the logo? If you could take a screenshot of the bad behavior, it might tell me something. Control-c will write a file /tmp/screen001.tif that you can sent me. |

I tried compiling copter-commander on my Macintosh G3 (PPC architecture) running Yellow Dog Linux. I can get the game to start up and run ok, but when I try to play the tutorial, I can't see the copter or the men or other games sprites. I can, however, see the top part of the screen with the fuel gauge, etc., and I can also see the tutorial instructions, the blue arrow, and the ground (the brown strip at the bottom). I don't quite follow. Are you saying -R would be better than -L if you compiled (say) OpenAL, but didn't install it, then compiled and installed coco, then went back and installed OpenAL, then deleted the OpenAL source tree? man ld says: -R filename --just-symbols=filename Read symbol names and their addresses from filename, but do not relocate it or include it in the output. This allows your output file to refer symbolically to absolute locations of memory defined in other pro grams. You may use this option more than once. For compatibility with other ELF linkers, if the -R option is followed by a directory name, rather than a file name, it is treated as the -rpath option. |

We're going to need malloc. I'm not sure why #include <stdlib.h> isn't bringing it in. I suspect its that -ansi is being passed to gcc, and that mucks with it. But... what does "man malloc" give you on your system? On mine it tells me to #include <stdlib.h>. |

Thomas, Wow, great work! I'll apply the patches and write you back. That's the biggest set of changes I've seen from an outsider yet, by the way. If you're interested, I'd like to add you as an admin to the sourceforge site. Hi! I just added copter-commander to NetBSD's pkgsrc, it will show up sometime next week at ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/packages/pkgsrc/games/copter-commander/README.html I had to add some patches to make it work, they are attached. Some comments: NetBSD doesn't provide nor need alloca.h; if it's really needed on Linux, it should be properly #ifdef'd (my patches just remove it). I had to initialize to variables because of gcc-2.95.3's complaining about them perhaps being used uninitialized (patch-ad, patch-ae). NetBSD's sed doesn't support a '-' flag, since stdin is the default. I don't think it's really needed in the one place in string-literalize.sh, so I removed it (patch-ag). Oh, and patch-aa: The rpath has to be added manually. -L doesn't automatically add its argument to the binary's rpath, because the -L path is only for link-time, the -R path is for run-time. [Imagine you want to link against some libraries before installing them, then you don't want to embed the temporary path in the binary]. Please add these patches to the copter-commander distribution. In that file I see I wrote "#include <malloc.h>". The doc for malloc says its in stdlib.h. So...try removing the line that says "#include <malloc.h>"... |

Ah, okay, that's the first library dependancy then. Libtiff is pretty common on unix. I can remove the dependancy without too much trouble, but its probably easier, for now, to install libtiff. Hm, close to money now: I'm trying to figure out if I just need these libraries installed, but I can't figure out why they wouldn't be.
