If you compile with a 1.4 JDK, do you get the same error?  It kind of =
looks more like the problem is related to the fact that the classes =
you're testing are modified by Cobertura, which maybe results in a =
different serialVersionUID.  But I'm not extremely knowledgeable in =
serialization.  Have you tried setting serialVersionUID manually instead =
of letting Java generate it for you?  (I'm not even sure if that makes =
sense)  Is serialVersionUID created at compile-time or at run-time?
