I'd like to use sphinx to have users call a phone number and give voice commands to sphinx via the phone, similar to what has been done at CMU with the Communicator system reachable at 1-877-CMU-PLAN (1-877-268-7526).
I know the Communicator system uses expensive hardware, but I was interested in finding out if any voice capable modems or something like the Internet Line Jack could be used for this purpose. Are there any devices which have been successfully used this way? Are there any specs that a device would have to meet to be useable with sphinx? Any documentation on how to go about setting up a system like this?
Marc

The guys at UColorado, Boulder (http://communicator.colorado.edu/) are working on an audio server that uses the Dialogic (www.dialogic.com) telephony cards. Their version of communicator also uses Sphinx. Maybe they could help you.
