Am new to this project and not sure how things are supposed to work here so pardon my ignorance. Does this mean that the issue has been fixed on trunk or does it mean something else? Can I help test it? If there is any way I can help with this, do let me know.

The issue is not fixed in trunk. The feature is still not implemented.

    Can I help test it?

Someone has to implement it first

If there is any way I can help with this, do let me know.

You are welcome to implement it.

Err... I was under the impression that osx was a supported platform for this project. Is that not the case?

I would love to implement it but dont really have any idea of the api's involved and how to get started hacking on this project. Any guidance would be really appreciated.

    OSX is supported

You need to implement audio backend. For the description of backend interface please read sphinxbase/include/ad.h. For an example of backend implementation please read backends in sphinxbase/src/libsphinxad.

If this is broken on OS X, shouldn't this bug still be open? Seems weird to close it when it is crashing.

I encountered this exact problem. I'm kind of bewildered by this thread, and that this bug was closed.

On the FAQ/tutorial page, under "Unix-like Installation", the final step reads:

To test installation, run pocketsphinx_continuous and check that it recognizes words you are saying to the microphone.

OS X is a Unix, and this text is exactly what people are trying to do when they get the A/D library not implemented error. So clearly either the documentation or the software is broken. I think this bug should be reopened, or I'd be happy to open another one.

@Nickolay: Notwithstanding your (I'm guessing) many apparent contributions to this project, I find your attitude in this thread offputting, condescending, and dismissive. In FOSS, many people file bugs before they fix something, to confirm they aren't doing something wrong, or so they can file a patch against the bug. Regardless, a bug report should never be taken as a personal affront, or a opportunity to lawyer-up on what "supported" and "bug" mean.

    I agree with @Clay.

I'd love for this to work on OSX.

I've created some head-only Homebrew formulae to help with installing the development libraries on OSX, since there haven't been any official stable releases for some time.

      Great, thank you!
