thanks. i've tried it and didn't work as reliable as i was wishing it would.
the problem i'm actually trying to solve is that on a redhat based cluster
client whose root dir is served on nfs (i.e. cNFS) up2date/rpm are not working
correctly/reliably. rpm sometimes exits from installs saying that doing cpio
of some package returned an error. is there any known problem/issue wrt. cNFS
and cpio?

btw. is my impression correct that the people involved in cNFS/unfs3 are
      mostly from germany  (just curious)?
