I sent you the latest php extension and modified wrapper with the cltest.php. (the one that uses resources). The only way I could try to execute windows apps is under Wine(X) but not sure how good would that be in this case... Anyways, could you please tell me what has been change in CLucene when you added the resources, namely for indexing or searching so I have some starting point where to look for any issues. As I said before things work great with Rob's patches and then you made some changes and now these hits and searches dont come up... thanks -pedja ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ben van Klinken" <be...@vi...> To: <clu...@li...> Sent: Thursday, October 23, 2003 1:54 AM Subject: Re: [CLucene-dev] something is broken... > Ahh, ok :) > > Is there something in linux for interopability between different languages - > like dll's? > > Ben > > On Wed, 22 Oct 2003 20:42:57 -0400, <am...@ma...> wrote: > > > I'm running Linux here Ben, I cant compile dll's for windows :) > > > > > > -pedja > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > > From: "Ben van Klinken" <s40...@st...> > > To: <clu...@li...> > > Sent: Wednesday, October 22, 2003 6:49 PM > > Subject: Re: [CLucene-dev] something is broken... > > > > > >> Have you tried running the test program inside the dll/test directory? > >> THat works fine for me (i think). > >> > >> ben > >> > >> On Tue, 21 Oct 2003 19:54:16 -0400, <am...@ma...> wrote: > >> > >> > ...I dont know what but ever since this Resource business things dont > >> > seem > >> > to work the way they should/used to using the wrapper/php ext. > >> > > >> > Instead of error messages I get garbage; hit count shows 0 hits yet it > >> > finds > >> > one > >> > document, even though there should be more than one hit/documents > >> found. > >> > > >> > I'm really puzzled here because there's nothing to it, using this > >> > Resource > >> > struct > >> > just makes it look more organized but where are the correct results > >> from > >> > all > >> > this? > >> > What has been changed inside CLucene core / if anything? > >> > > >> > > >> > > >> > -pedja > >> > > >> > ----- Original Message ----- > >> > From: <am...@ma...> > >> > To: <clu...@li...> > >> > Sent: Tuesday, October 21, 2003 3:46 PM > >> > Subject: Re: [CLucene-dev] some more fixes > >> > > >> > > >> >> Hi Ben > >> >> > >> >> Thanks for all the recent updates, I wonder what's the next step with > >> >> CLucene. > >> >> Personally I'd like to see MFQP (multifieldqueryparser) implemented, > > but > >> >> then > >> >> again I admit I kinda need it myself so I'm selfish. :) > >> >> > >> >> > > >> >> > I've replaced the stringDuplicate function with a function that > >> > allocates > >> >> > memory using new[] then doing a stringCopy. Probably better to use the stringDuplicate macro. It uses new[] to allocate.
Better yet, do:
#ifdef _UNICODE
wchar_t* wfield = Misc::charToWide(field);
....
delete[] wfield;
#else
char_t* wfield = field;
....
//no free!
#endif
Unicode needs to copy, only because it needs to convert.

Ben, This is what I've done - I used my old php extension and wrapper, the one before this resources business and 0.8.6 works just fine it seems. I do not see any lag, nor i see problems searching or indexing and hits come up the way they should. The only thing that doesnt work are messages (error and normal) that come out as gibberish (as if the errstr is actually a pointer and not the string itself...) So, please if you have a moment, check all this resource stuff you've added to the wrapper because it is a "show stopper" on Linux, or maybe consider doing this in some other way or not doing it at all :) I'll wait for your reply about this matter, and whether there'll be a new version including the wrapper coming soon (with the MFQP added to the wrapper or could I do it myself)? thanks -pedja |

I still need to sort this PHP issue where results/hits dont show and also now I noticed some lag for example if I click Optimize in cltest.php sometimes it takes long time to execute, or if you do Index to create a new document the first time you do it, it's lagging for a minute or two and then fails to add but says it did add a document?! This did not use to happen prior to adding resources or whatever other changes have been made after Rob did his patch (with Rob's patch on the old version it works just fine) On this side there's really nothing to php_clucene.c, I've just added an extra long paremeter infront of most functions to include the resource integer, and on the clucene.cpp wrapper I've added ifdefs wherever there's a call to a _UNICODE function, so for example instead of: wchar_t* wfield = Misc::charToWide(field); I just do a quick hack: char_t* wfield = strdup(field); Now this works fine, or at least it used to be fine in the prior versions before the resource business, and now I'm not sure if this is correct anymore, but it does work even with resources (which shouldnt really make a difference) Any insight would be appreciated... -pedja ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ben van Klinken" <s40...@st...> To: <clu...@li...> Sent: Wednesday, October 22, 2003 11:04 PM Subject: [CLucene-dev] 0.8.6 > Hi, > > New release up. Ben, Here's a sample page where you can see the php extension (not) doing it's job ... http://home.eniac.org/clucene/cltest.php if you add the default values, and search back, it will find 0 docs yet display the document reference 01234 ...if you add more again it'll show 0 hits and yet show only one document even though there are more than one in the index.. optimizing and deleting seems to work ok, just searching i gather (unless indexing is also messed up) I do not believe this to be a php issue because all this worked fine in the previous version(s) (prior to Resources*) -pedja |

In src/CLucene/search/IndexSearcher.cpp, line 124, I changed the "delete totalHits;" to "delete[] totalHits;" However, with that one change, I am unable to produce any errors when running the demo program on the reuter's set. I am indexing a much larger set while running under valgrind now. Because valgrind is slower, it make take a day or more. --Rob |

...I dont know what but ever since this Resource business things dont seem to work the way they should/used to using the wrapper/php ext. Instead of error messages I get garbage; hit count shows 0 hits yet it finds one document, even though there should be more than one hit/documents found. I'm really puzzled here because there's nothing to it, using this Resource struct just makes it look more organized but where are the correct results from all this? Hi Ben Thanks for all the recent updates, I wonder what's the next step with CLucene. I read through the FAQ, and that's one of the places where I noted them suggesting to use the same analyzer for indexing and searching. As it is now, there's no way for a user to specify the analyzer in CLucene, but I'm sure that will eventually change now that the topic has been brought up :) If I recall correctly, you did mention in one of your old posts that some hits were missing so my thinking was that it was analyzers' fault and hardcoded all to StandardAnalyzer. Never thought to actually compare the index with and without the same analyzers... -pedja > > Is it possible that you could just try it both ways, and compare the > results to grep, and see if your missing hits re-appear ? > > Did you look over the FAQ from the original Java Lucene, and in > particular this question: > > http://lucene.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/faq/faqmanager.cgi?file=chapter.indexi ng&toc=faq#q15 > > --Rob > |

Hi All, Still haven't got CVS access... so here's some more changes. I followed on from Rob's work and found a few more instances of using delete where delete[] should have been used. I've replaced the stringDuplicate function with a function that allocates memory using new[] then doing a stringCopy. So I think there shouldn't be any code that uses malloc anymore. However i ran a quick comparison check using the tests program, comparing the old code that uses malloc against the new code that uses new[]. The old codes seems to be the slightest big faster. Does anyone know about if if there's any performance issues of malloc vs new[]? I also looked through all the places where "delete " was being used and found a few arrays that needed to be changed to "delete[]". Hopefully that gets them all, but Rob if you could check with valgrind when you get time. Also Rob, if you have time could you look at the tests program. I know there's some terrible test code in there (almost no resources are freed ;~} but when i run the tests in cygwin i get a segfault during the === Test Query Parser === test. I've posted 0.8.3 on sourceforge. Sorry about CVS, does anyone have any ideas how to get through a firewall onto sourceforge (no socks server either)? cheers, ben |

Hi all, Just figured out why you guys were raving about the speed change. It's because previously the data was being stored and now it isn't (the *.fdt file is where it is usually kept). You'll notice the indexes are also MUCH smaller. But if you try to retrieve the "contents" field you won't be able to now. But that shouldn't be a problem :) ben |
