Shot too fast. Followed the steps from "Create a common use Clonezilla Live 
USB flash drive, which can be used to save or restore an image", and it 
worked, taking care of one circumstance:

The loop-mount of the then downloaded "debian-live-for-ocs.iso" will fail if 
done on a virtual filesystem ("ioctl: LOOP_SET_FD: Invalid argument"), 
leaving you without a kernel on your USB drive afterwards. 

Working on a "real" filesystem on the second partition of my USB-HDD while 
executing "/opt/drbl/sbin/ocs-live-dev -s -d /dev/sdb1" got me around this. 

Maybe this is worth a note?
