If this is a kernel issue, maybe you can give this one a try:
http://clonezilla.org/clonezilla-server-edition/use_clonezilla_live_in_drbl.php
i.e. to use Clonezilla live, e.g. 20100414-lucid, as the OS of the
diskless client. It's easier.
