Hi Paul, I will try to have one recently to see if the unfs3 issue still exists or not. For the time being, you can try (in a machine with RAM >= 1 GB): 1. Boot drbl-live-xfce-1.0.2-46 2. Configure the network to connect to internet 3. In the command line prompt, run: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install drbl clonezilla partclone sudo /opt/drbl/sbin/drbl-ocs-live-prep -i http://downloads.sourceforge.net/clonezilla/clonezilla-live-1.2.8-23-i686.iso Ref: http://clonezilla.org/use_clonezilla_live_in_drbl.php Then you can use it as normal case, i.e. double clicks on the Clonezilla SE icon to start it. If you encounter any problem, please let me know. Steven. On 2011/3/30 上午 01:29, Paul Warren wrote: > Steven, > > Thanks for the reply. Steven, Thanks for the reply. What I've found is that the stable version of DRBL Live will not detect the network card on a Dell Optiplex 380. The testing version of DRBL Live does find the 380's network card. When I PXE boot the Optiplex 380 from a stable version of DRBL Live, the network card is not detected. It is detected when I PXE boot the 380 from a testing version. When I PXE boot an Optiplex 360 from a stable version of DRBL Live, it's network card is detected. But when I PXE boot the 360 from a testing version, the card is not detected. Do you know if there will soon be a version (stable or testing) with a client that will support both the Optiplex 360 and 380? This are still some issues about testing DRBL live, especially the unfs3 issue. Please give stable DRBL a try. Steven. I have been using Clonezilla Live for some time and I would now like to try using Clonezilla SE. I dowloaded the latest DRBL Live ISO (drbl-live-xfce-1.0.2-46-i686.iso) and used tuxboot to put this on a USB flash drive. I have used this flash drive to boot a spare PC. Once the GUI comes up, I click on the Clonzilla Server icon to get things going. I choose 'dhcp' to configure the network card. Since there is only one network card, I choose 'Y' to the question "Do you want to lease IP addresses to PXE/Etherboot clients only". The file that I want to send to the clients is on a Windows file server, so I select the option to connect to a samba server and provide all of the needed config. I next choose to set the mode for "All" clients. I then go through setting up the Clonezilla mode options and choose the image to restore. I select "multicast restore" and "clients-to-wait" with 1 client. I eventually end up at a message that says "DO NOT CLOSE THIS WINDOW UNTIL CLIENTS FINISH THE CLONE!" at which time I boot the PC via the network controller. The PC gets an IP address (verified via 'cat /var/lib/dhcp/dhcpd.leases' on the DRBL Live server) and begins booting the DRBL client. After the main splash screen some lines of text scroll by and then things seem to stop. I've waited several minutes to see if anything will happen, but nothing seems to be going on. When I press 'Enter' on the client PC I get a command prompt ('#') with a few commands available. Am I supposed to run a command here to start the process? Have I done something wrong? Both the DRBL server and the PC client are connected to the same switch, so I hope that eliminates any potential multicast issues for my test. Where should I begin troubleshooting? Thanks! - Paul |

I've been trying to configure some clients to automatically boot and start imaging directly. I've gone through the dcs command line, and ended up with this command line: /opt/drbl/sbin/drbl-ocs -b -g auto -e1 auto -e2 -r -x -j2 -p reboot -l en_US.UTF-8 startdisk restore 2010-11-12-03-img sda This seems to work (I get a menu entry on boot), but the clients then go to single user mode, and seem to wait for something. I've traced this down to the pxelinux.cfg/default file specifying single user mode, but when I remove that it does not function as I expect. It then just goes to a log in prompt, and doesn't start the imaging process. This is the line I'm referring to: append initrd=initrd-pxe.img devfs=nomount drblthincli=off selinux=0 text 1 clientdir=node_root ocs_opt="-l en_US.UTF-8 -g auto -e1 auto -e2 -r --clone-hidden-data -p reboot restoredisk 2010-11-12-03-img sda" Is there something else I need to do here? I've been unable to find any sort of documentation describing this process, so I can't tell if single user mode is normal or not. Any pointers in the right direction would be great. Thanks, Brian Rak |

If this is a kernel issue, maybe you can give this one a try: http://clonezilla.org/clonezilla-server-edition/use_clonezilla_live_in_drbl.php i.e. to use Clonezilla live, e.g. 20100414-lucid, as the OS of the diskless client. It's easier. Steven. Martin Schulte wrote: > Hi, > > i've some problems to clone a disk from a Laptop with sis191 ethernet > card (using clonezilla SE). Hi, i've some problems to clone a disk from a Laptop with sis191 ethernet card (using clonezilla SE). The problem is, that the used kernel set a wrong mtu. The boot-process stops with "|NFS server not responding" Using other bootimages i can solve this problem, when i switch to shell and enter ifconfig eth0 mtu 1496 Is something similar available using clonezilla. Or is there a possibility to add an script which will run very early during booting up? Thanks, Martin | |

Dear all, We have implemented a new method,i.e. use Clonezilla Live as the OS of client in Clonezilla SE server. You can find why and how to do that here: http://clonezilla.org/clonezilla-server-edition/use_clonezilla_live_in_drbl.php This is still in beta testing, but we have tested it and it works very well here. If you can, please help to test so that we can make is as a stable release soon. Thanks. hi, a brief summary of my environment then a question or two. i have a dell optiplex gx520 acting as clonezilla se server on debian lenny, upgraded to lenny-stable as of 3/26. running clonezilla se from testing unstable as of 3/24/2010. the box has 512Mb ram, a 1.5Tb drive hosting the os and images, connected via 1 GiB ethernet to an HP 8 port procurve switch. my client pcs are toshiba notebooks (satellite pro l450s with realtek RTL8102E/3E NICs, connecting at <= 100 MB. the drives are encrypted using truecrypt whole disk encryption and are approx 320G. i have observed network speeds of approx 4MB/s to 11MB/s using the default clonezilla se impatient client kernel and said switch and server. for a different client computer with an intel NIC and without truecrypt, i have seen upwards of 650Mb/min (?). i also observe a fallback to dd based imaging for the truecrypt volumes vs partclone based imaging for the non-truecrypt volumes. my goal would be to improve the networking throughput to take advantage of GiB networking between the realtek based toshibas and the server. my questions are: 1) how can i configure / customize the client PXE boot environment to take advantage of the GiB networking? 2) am i correct in assuming that the dd fall back is based on the truecrypt whole disk encryption interfering with the partclone / ntfsclone modules? 3) can i optimize dd for faster copies (larger block size, no compression etc)? 4) would a diff server os (ubuntu vs debian for example) yield different results? thanks for helping a newbie, regards, geo |

Sure, for Clonezilla SE, you can modify the files in /tftpboot/nbi_img/ and /tftpboot/nbi_img/pxelinux.cfg/ Please refer to http://syslinux.zytor.com/wiki/index.php/PXELINUX for how to modify that. Yes. If you have 2 network switches for your eth0 and eth1, please use network cable to connect those 2 network switches so that the multicast packets can be passed from the first one to another one. Hello! I have server with DRBL+Clonezilla with eth0 connected to 192.168.0.0/24 subnet, eth1 connected to 192.168.1.0/24 subnet, etc. Is it possible to do multicast image restore to two (or three, etc) subnets simultaneously? Hardware is powerful enough to handle such load. But seems, that the udpcast support only one network interface as command line parameter. May be run two instances of udpcast with piping data to them? Any ideas? Thanks in advance. -- Kasatkin Nikolay |

Not really. For multicast actually the packets are sent to class D IP address. However, I think what you mean is to deploy the DRBL client with class A IP address, yes, it's can be done. Just assign the class A IP address (10.0.0.*) for the network card which connects to clients, then run "/opt/drbl/sbin/drblsrv -i" and "/opt/drbl/sbin/drblpush -i" to deploy the system. However, sometimes some network switch does not have good multicast ability... and it's weird that if you use class C IP address, it can handle multicast packets well... Steven. Hello, is ist possible to change the IP-range clonezilla SE uses for Multicast. I use 10.0.0.* for my clients (existing dhcp). I think clonezilla uses 192.168.*.* for multicast. I want/must use my existing DHCP! Thanks, Martin |

Now i did it. But after that, i loss contact to the server. I set up an eth0:1 with ip 192.168.2.1 (because of multicast) and answered all the other question i think in the right way. Is it possible to run clonezilla SE on a client? I don't want to crash my configured server! But when, i would be interesting in the way, how clonezilla handle the pxe-boot, cause the mainserver also offers pxe-booting. Hi, i'm trying to use clonzilla SE the first time, after using successfully clonezilla live. But i get some problems when installing it on an existing server. The server base on debian Lenny, running, dhcp, pxe boot, samba, nfs and some other things. When i run /opt/drbl/sbin/dcs i get the message ------------ # /opt/drbl/sbin/dcs /opt/drbl/sbin/dcs: line 12: /opt/drbl/conf/drbl-ocs.conf: file or directory not found /opt/drbl/sbin/dcs: line 13: /opt/drbl/sbin/ocs-functions: file or directory not found [root] You should run this program /opt/drbl/sbin/dcs in DRBL server, NOT in DRBL client or other machine. Program terminated! ------------ What is the matter of this? Is it always necessary to install clonezilla SE on the mainserver or is it possible to install it on every client? Have clonezilla it's own dhcp-server? Thanks, martin |

Nevermind....turneed out to be an nfs exporting problem. Turns out, like ntfs, vboxsf mounted directories also have problems being shared via nfs. Thanks much for Clonezlla.
