[Clonezilla-release] Clonezilla live 1.2.0-25 (stable) released

It's time to have another stable Clonezilla live. The major changes and
improvement in this release are the PXE booting of Clonezilla live, and
a menu to create a recovery CD or USB flash drive file was added.
Here the release notes for Clonezilla live 1.2.0-25:
New features or updates:
- The function to create a recovery iso/zip was added in the menu.
- All the Clonezilla-related files are in file system.squashfs now.
Therefore it's easier to be used in PXE server.
- For PXE booting, now Clonezilla live supports
fetch=tftp://$IP/filesystem.squashfs or any other method which live
initramfs supports (http, ftp...). For more info about PXE booting
Clonezilla live, refer to

- Now we can assign the clonezilla live parameters (ocs_live_run,
ocs_live_extra_param, ocs_live_keymap, ocs_live_batch and ocs_lang) in
kernel parameters.
- Some debian extra modules (atl2...) were added. Therefore Eee PC
network card is supported now.
- FAT12 is supported by partclone.
- Now we can boot clonezilla live to create debian live template.
- Language files fr_FR was updated. Thanks to Jean-Francois Nifenecker.
- Language files ja_JP.UTF-8 was updated. Thanks to Annie Wei.
- Newer kernel 2.6.24-6~etchnhalf.5.
- New upstream ntfs-3g 1.2531.
- live-initramfs was updated based on 1.139.
- Packages traceroute and iputils-ping were added.
- A package davfs2 was added so that webdav device can be mounted as
Clonezilla image repository manually.
- Default to use VGA 1024x768 for Clonezilla live. Thanks to Scott
Ochiltree for this suggestion.
- "ocs-debug" can be used as a kernel parameter to enter command line
prompt before starting any Clonezilla action.
- create-cciss-mapping now supports /dev/cciss/, /dev/ida/, and /dev/rd/.
- An example was added (/opt/drbl/samples/custom-ocs-1), which can be
used to restore an image from samba server.
- Syslinux 3.71 is used now. ///NOTE/// If you want to create a bootable
USB flash drive for this version or later, remember to use the syslinux
command from syslinux 3.71 or later. Otherwise the boot menu won't work.
- The supported locales (en_US, zh_TW, ja_JP, fr_FR) will be kept in the
created iso/zip, it's not necessary to be generated before running
clonezilla live.
- By default we use jfbterm instead of bterm for showing Chinese and
Japanese fonts.

Bugs fixed:
- create-ocs-tmp-img will put the converted image in /tmp so it won't
fail in readonly filesystem (e.g. CD) or FAT-based filesystem (e.g. samba).
- Suppress MD starting failure messages in DRBL/Clonezilla live. Thanks
to Scott Ochiltree for this suggestion.

- option -q2 failed to use partclone to save hfs+ partition.

[Clonezilla-release] Clonezilla live 1.2.0-20 (testing) released

This release is aimed to be pushed into stable branch. Please give it a
good try if you can.
Some updates and bugs fixed from version 1.2.0-12:
- Language files fr_FR was updated. Thanks to Jean-Francois Nifenecker.
- Language files ja_JP.UTF-8 was updated. Thanks to Annie Wei.
- Some Debian extra modules (atl2...) were added. Therefore Eee PC
network card is supported now.
- Now the supported locales (en_US, zh_TW, ja_JP, fr_FR) will be kept in
the created iso/zip, it's not necessary to be generated before running
clonezilla live. An extra boot parameter "nolocales" was added so that
the prebuilt locales won't be wiped by live initramfs.
- Bug fixed: -a option of ocs-live-dev was used twice. Remove one of them.
- Bug fixed: command "file -Ls" comes with Debian lenny does not show
extended partition with any word "extended", therefore we added parted
to check the partition.

It's been a long time since last stable Clonezilla live. There are some
major improvement and changes in this release. Here it's the release
notes for Clonezilla live 1.1.0-8.
New features:
- French languages was added. Thanks to Jean-Francois Nifenecker.
- Japanese languages was added. Thanks to Akira Yoshiyama.
- Newer kernel 2.6.24-etchnhalf.1-486 (2.6.24-6).
- New upstream ntfs-3g 1.2506.
- 1024x768 resolution option was added in Clonezilla live. Thanks to
Scott Ochiltree for this idea.
- Default to turn on TUI output for partclone.
- The function to restore image to different disk/partition name was added.
- New feature: now ocs-sr will prompt the command to run ocs-sr again
when using "ocs-sr -x".
- ///NOTE/// Parameters of ocs-onthefly were modified to be the same
with ocs-sr, i.e. -k (was -n)/-k1/-k2, and -r (was -e).
- xfs and jfs growing functions were added in resize_part.
- Packages xfsdump and lscpi were added.

- Now it's possible to clone small disk to larger disk proportionally
(-k1 option) with filesystem matchs partition size.
- Now live-initramfs instead of casper is used. The auto login account
is 'user', and the password is 'live'. No password for root.
- Numlock is turned on by default.
- Some other minor bugs fixed and improvements.

About Bugs fixed:
- Bug fixed: ocs-onthefly failed to clone disk hda to disk hdb remotely.
- Bug fixed: ocs-onthefly should not automatically create swap partition.
- Bug fixed: /var/lib/apt/lists/lock was removed. Thanks to Louie Chen.
- Bug fixed: "-e" option was broken. Thanks to Orgad Shaneh for this bug
report.
- Bug fixed: Because Live helper does not deal with the umountfs service
when shutdowning/rebooting, we deal with that in Clonezilla live by
modifying /etc/init.d/umountfs. Thanks to Scott Ochiltree.
- Bug fixed: LV was not restored due to the variable target_dir was not
changed to target_dir_full in restore_logv.
- Bug fixed: ocs-functions was not able to list the size of cciss disk
size.
- Bug fixed: extra shift was removed in --extra-boot-param in ocs-iso.

- Bug fixed: ocs-onthefly failed to clone 2nd and the rest of LV
remotely, due to the file descriptor problem.
- Bug fixed: When swap partitions number > 2, and in /dev/[hs]d10 or
more, restorartion failed. Thanks to frankiehung for reporting this bug.

Some files name were changed. If you are hacking Cloneizlla live, be
aware of these changes:
- Exe files of partclone were renamed as partclone.$FS.
- File kbdconf-bterm was renamed as ocs-kbdconf-bterm.
- File tune the programs: ocs-live-run-menu, drbl-langchooser,
S05kbd-conf, ocs-kbdconf-bterm
- File resize_part was renamed as ocs-resize-part.
- File makeboot.sh was renamed as ocs-makeboot.
- File get_part_info was renamed as ocs-get-part-info.
- File ocs was renamed as clonezilla since ocs will conflict with other
package.
- Files lvm2-start.sh and lvm2-stop.sh were moved from package drbl and
renamed as ocs-lvm2-start and ocs-lvm2-stop, respectively.
- File socket.pl was moved from package drbl here and renamed as
ocs-socket.
- File drbl-chnthn is renamed as ocs-chnthn.
- File drbl-chnthn-functions is renamed as ocs-chnthn-functions.
- Typo fixed: Was 640x640 in ocs-live-boot-menu. Thanks to Orgad Shaneh.

We have released another testing Clonezilla live 1.1.0-5, some new
features were added and some bugs were fixed.
New features:
- The function to restore image to different disk/partition name was added.
- 1024x768 resolution option was added in Clonezilla live. Thanks to
Scott Ochiltree for this idea.
- Default to turn on TUI output for partclone.
- New upstream ntfs-3g 1.2506.
- When the rate report goes wrong, wait for pressing enter to continue.
- Improvement: Use --menu instead of --radiolist in ocs-onthefly as much
as possible.

Bugs fixed:
- Because Live helper does not deal with the umountfs service when

Hi,
We are happy to announce that Clonezilla live (testing) 1.0.11-5 was
released. From this version, we switched to use live-initramfs in
Clonezilla live, therefore now we have more flexibility.
Some improvement and bugs fixed:
- Packages xfsdump and lscpi were added.
- New kernel from EtchAndAHalf (2.6.24-etchnhalf.1-486) is used now.
Therefore more hardware is supported.
- Bug fixed: When swap partitions number > 2, and in /dev/[hs]d10 or
more, restorartion failed. Thanks to frankiehung for reporting this bug.
- Since live-initramfs instead of casper is used. The auto login account
now is 'user', and the password is 'live'. No password for root.
- For live USB, no more prompt to eject boot media before rebooting or
halting.

This release is focus on bugs fixed, and an improvement about image size
reduced:
- Manpages and doc files of system commands were removed since most of
the time we do not need that. Those doc can be easily found in any
GNU/Linux box.
- Package encfs was added.
- Numlock is turned on by default.
- An option to input ssh port number was added for sshfs mouting.
- Bug fixed: Two or more disks were not saved when using savedisk option
(https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4861197). Thanks to
Francisco Gonzalez and Rob Wynne for reporting this bug.
- Bug fixed: swappt-*.info was not converted by cnvt-ocs-dev.

Clonezilla live 1.0.9-19 (stable) is available now.
This release is a bug fixed one with some minor updates.
- Bug fixed: memtest, freedos and etherboot were not listed in syslinux boot
- Bug fixed: cciss RAID device restoration was broken.
- Bug fixed: When "ocs-iso -s" or "ocs-live-dev -c -s" was run in
Clonezilla live, etherboot and freedos image were not copied. Thanks to

Clonezilla live 1.0.9-18 (testing) and 20080306b-hardy (experimental)
were released.
In the releases:
- In experimental branch, Ubuntu hardy (8.04) alpha 5 is used. Kernel is
2.6.24-11. Testing branch is based on Debian etch with kernel 2.6.22.
- Newer syslinux.exe is used now. Makeboot.exe is replaced by
makeboot.sh so that USB flash drive will boot successfully with kernel
under /casper/.

Hi,
Stable Clonezilla live 1.0.9-10 was released. Newer packages are used in
this release, and some bugs were fixed. We also added newer functions.
Check this:
- New upstream Debian etch 4.0r3
- Newer kernel 2.6.22-4 from backports is used.
- Based on DRBL 1.8.2-37 and Clonezilla 2.2.4-12.
- ntfs-3g 1.2129-2 is used.
- Switch to use live helper instead of live package. Thanks to Louie
Chen for providing patches.
- Improvement: vmlinuz and initrd in /boot in filesystem.squashfs are
not necessary for Live CD and USB stick, so removed. This will reduce
file size by about 7 MB. Thanks to Louid Chen.
- New param in drbl-functions: -q1 (--force-to-use-dd) was added.
Therefore now we can force to use dd to save any filesystem. Thanks to
Justin Fitzhugh.
- An experimental option -q2 for clonezilla was added (Priority:
ntfsclone, partclone > partimage > dd).
- GPT (GUID Partition Table) is supported
- Package partclone was added so HFS+, reiserfs4 are supported by using
partclone (check -q2 when you save an image if you want to use this).
Therefore this release in Clonezilla live can be used to save and
restore an Intel-based Mac OS. It's tested successfully to save and
restore a Mac mini with Mac OS leopard + Ubuntu 7.04 installed.
- create-ubuntu-live and create-ubuntu-live now use live helper instead
of live package.
- A helper file ocs-rm-win-swap-hib was added to clean swap and
hibernation files in M$ windows system before saving. Thanks to Kristof
Vansant for this idea.
- Clonezilla live version number is shown in the boot menu. Thanks to
evilmrb for this idea.
- Bug fixed: start over was broken in clonezilla live.
- Bug fixed: If clonezilla image is on Samba disk, LVM restoration will

In the release, some new functions, especially on Clonzilla, were added.
Some bugs were fixed, too. Thanks to those bug reporters.
  - New upstream syslinux 3.61.
  - New upstream memtest86+ 2.00.
  - Ready for Debian Lenny and Ubuntu 8.04 alpha4.
  - client-extra-service, client-ip-hostname, client-append-fstab in
/opt/drbl/conf were renamed with .example appended. This will avoid they
are removed when upgrading drbl. Thanks to Dave Haakenhout
<Dave.Haakenhout _at_ nccw nl>. ///Note/// If the existing version you
have is older than 1.8.2-36, remember to backup those files first. This
function will only works for drbl 1.8.2-36 to upgrade newer.
  - dcs now can accept MODE2 as netinstall, Ex: "dcs -nl netinstall
netinstall-CentOS-4.6-i386". Thanks to Barny Sanchez for this idea.
  - url_site in drbl.conf was changed to something like debian_url_site
so that we can assign different repositories for different distributions.
  - linux-ubuntu-modules for Ubuntu >= 7.10 will be installed by default
in drblsrv.
  - netinstall setting for centos now is 4.6/5.1.
  - Bug fixed: find-url-in-yum-set was updated to cover some format of
fedora repo (like "baseurl = http://..., the extra space before and
after =).
  - Bug fixed: If client machines are selected, in some cases they were
parsed incorrectly.
  - Some minor bugs were fixed.

In this release, some new features were added and some changes:
1. An option to use Partclone was added. Partclone is our new project
(http://partclone.sf.net) to replace partimage in Clonezilla since
partimage is not actively developed. Now partclone supports these file
systems: ext2, ext3, reiserfs, reiser4, xfs, and hfs+. Therefore by
using "-q2" in Clonezilla, we can use partclone to save the HFS+
filesystem of Intel Mac efficiently. ///NOTE/// This function is still
in experimental.
2. A new option was added: -q1|--force-to-use-dd.  Therefore now we can
force to use dd to save any file system. Thanks to Justin Fitzhugh from
mozilla.com for this idea.
3. An option was added so that we can remove page and hibernation file
of MS Windows before saving an image. Thanks to Kristof Vansant for this
idea.
4. New upstream Debian etch 4.0r2.
5. Switch to use live helper instead of live package to create the
Debian Live template for Clonezilla live. Thanks to Louie Chen for
providing patches.
6. An option to restore a prebuilt MBR from syslinux to target disk was
added. This can be used to make some restored Windows boot correctly.
7. Some minor bugs were fixed.

In this release, some new functions and programs:
- Updated with kernel 2.6.22-3. Therefore now only one version, no more
two versions with two different kernels.
- GPT (GUID Partition Table) is supported now.
- Now it's possible to clone Intel Mac. However, it's an inefficient
clone for file system HFS+, since it is done by dd. ///NOTE/// This is
still in beta status.
- By default, -z1 (gzip), instead of -z3 (lzop), is used for clonezilla.

[Clonezilla-release] Clonezilla live 1.0.6-5 (testing) released

Hi,
In this release, linux kernel 2.6.22, ntfs-3g 1.913 and ntfsprogs 2.0.0
are used. Besides, Partimage 0.6.7_beta2 is used, which included a patch
from Thomas Tsai for blocks per group is non-32768 in filesystem ext2/3.
An option "-o" was added to tune the menu in ocs-iso and ocs-live-dev.
Please give it a try if possible, and report bugs or give comments.

Clonezilla live 1.0.5-8 (stable):

- A bug with the NFS client was fixed. The nfs-common service was not
started, since loopback network was not up.

Clonezilla live 1.0.6-1 (experimental):
Release focus: Minor features enhanced
Changes:
- Kernel 2.6.22 and ntfs-3g 1.913 are used.
- Based on DRBL 1.8.0-17 and Clonezilla 2.2.1-6.
- Package ethtool was added.

[Clonezilla-release] Clonezilla 1.0.5-4 (testing) and 1.0.5-4-nk-1 (experimental) released

Clonezilla 1.0.5-4 (testing) and 1.0.5-4-nk-1 (experimental) released.

Now the version number is synced. The same version means same programs
except the newer kernel and ntfs-3g are used in "-nk" files.
Some new features and bugs fixed:
- cciss device (Ex. Compaq's SMART Array Controllers) is supported.
- Symbolic image file (Ex. hda1.aa is a link file) is supported.
- Two more options were added for ocs-sr: -o0 & -o1 (=-o before), which
allows us to run programs in $OCS_PRERUN_DIR and $OCS_POSTRUN_DIR.
- Package pcmciautils, ncpfs, Packages dvd+rw-tools and udftools were
added.
- Based clonezilla 2.2.0-8, partimage 0.6.6 and Debian 4.0r1. kernel
2.6.21-2 and ntfs-3g 1.913 are used.
- Bug fixed: nfs-common should be installed so that lockd can work.
- Bug fixed: A error when mounting samba server as clonezilla home.
- Sync the version number with experimental branch. With extra "-nk"
(newer kernel) for experimental version.

1.0.5-4 will be in the stable branch if no other bug were reported in a
few days.

New features and bugs fixed from version 1.0.2-5,
- New features:
1. Partititon to partition, disk to disk clone is added.
2. Unattended mode to restore image is added.
3. An iso with restoring image builtin can be created in Clonezilla live
instead of in DRBL server. For example,
(a) Boot Clonezilla live,
(b) Choose to mount the clonezilla home image, which is writable
(c) Do not save or restore, just exit to shell,
(d) Change to working directory, Ex. cd /home/partimag/
(e) Download the stable debian-live-for-ocs template, you can download
it by "wget
http://opensource.nchc.org.tw/clonezilla-live/template-iso/debian-live-for-ocs.iso";
in the working directory.
(f) Use ocs-iso to create that by something like (Assume clonezilla
image sarge-r5 is in clonezilla home image):

4. Add an option to mount directory in NFS server as the clonezilla

5. /opt/drbl/sbin/ocs is added as a wrapper program to do clone. It's is
recommend to use /opt/drbl/sbin/ocs instead of other single programs.
- Add an option not to start network connection in clonezilla live
(ocs-live-boot-menu)
- Increase the timeout as 30 secs in clonezilla live boot menu.
- Add an option not to start network connection in boot menu.

- Bugs fixed:
1. When more than 10 partitions, ocs failed. Thanks to Tom Ed (vi0lam0n)
for identifying this bug in

2. Resize should only run in the target partition instead of all

server, clonezlla will fail to identify the iamge format. Thanks to

Clonezilla live boots.

casper instead of running /etc/rc2.d/S99ocs-live-run. This enables other
consoles (2-6) are available when clonezilla is running. Due to this
change, if login as casper in tty1, Clonezilla program will be run
again. An exit to shell can be selected when clonezilla start.

About system security changes:
1. casper's password is "live". Before you start ssh service, remember
to change it.
2. Follow Debian Live, No root password, so you can not remote login as
root. The only way is to login as casper and "sudo su -" to become root.
3. sshd service is not started by default. If you need that, run
"/etc/init.d/ssh start" to start it.
4. /etc/hosts.deny is empty, i.e. it won't block any access.
