When booting a machine with serveral ethernet cards but only one
connected for the cloning process, it would be a lot faster if ones with
no link were skipped or the process doing the dhcp request could be put
in the background instead of waiting for it to time out.

Actually you can press Ctrl-C to terminate the dhcp client when it's requesting an IP address.
