HI when I try restoring my clonezilla image that is around 40 GB into virtualbox the restoration feature fails because it thinks it is restoring the full size of the HD (500gb)

Is there a way to let clonzilla know it isnt resoring the full size just the 40gb ?

If you meant you want to restore an image saved from 40 GB to a 500 GB disk, you can try to enter expert mode, choose "-k1" and "-icds" when restoring.
