long story short:
i have Win8.1x64 Retail Boxed "Full" Non Oem version, i dont like W10
in a 500GB WD HDD,
Works OK, the only problem W8.1 has is the Update.exe "its another name i cant rememeber" wsaut.exe or something W8.1 needs manual updates to make Updater work, and be updated to latest version, that works flawless.
also i like 2.5"vs. 3.5" because shorter arm is less sensible to vibrations,
less weight, less power consumption, less noise, less heat = better.
purchased a New Faster 1TB HDD Seagate 2.5".
Cloned Bit-by-Bit Advanced Mode with latest Clonezilla
replaced original drive with cloned drive,
and Now everything is 1 Million times slower....
i mean sloooooow.... slooooooooooow.
Non Responding, Waiting.....
i ran some tests:
HDTune
Speedtest.net
everything is OK.
Windows seems to add ping Latency interrupts to the whole system,
like if the HDD is on the other side of the Universe.
i have checked HDD Cluster Block size, and seems ok.
have reset pagefile.sys, seems ok.
have run Error Check the HDD by Windows and by HDTune, seems ok,
have checked Defragment, Windows Analizer says its ok 3%.
i cannot explain or solve this problem...
sometimes cloning goes well... No problem.
this is Not the 1st time it has happened, totally different machines, and W7..
i really want to quit Windows, but there are many softwares designed for Windows Only or Mac Only, No Linux.
Wine, Crossover, Not good enough yet.
The Only Softwares designed for Windows10 Only are:
the latest Need for Speed from Origin or Steem cant remember.
but i like NFS The Run much more.
and Cinebench R20
i will never buy W10.
if i need another license of W8.1, W10 license can be "downgraded" to W8.1 or W7.
Windows System Timer is OK, 1.0008ms when EDGE is running.
"yes, latest W8.1 update has EDGE, older W8.1 Not"
DPC Latency Checker is OK 1000uS
i cannot explain this problem...
for example:
Parallels16 Desktop version "1 time payment only version"
installs a custom intel ICH10 driver that is limited to 50% speed, or 60MB/s - 70MB/s,
Parallels16 subscription "pay every month or year" has Unlocked SATA drivers... 1 time payment has locked drivers, better VMWare Fusion Player 12.1 its free and has unlocked drivers, But... code is Not as smooth or refined as Parallels..
... when cloned Windows was starting i could Not detect any system driver change.
maybe was in the background....? or im just too paranoid.
after 9 hours of Windows Optimize Drive "Defrag" ...
its worse... 1 hour to shutdown.
noticed that pagefile size affects Shutdown time.... a 20MB pagefile makes Windows shutdown almost instantly, but Windows does Not recommend less than 800MB because it cannot save error logs.
who cares?
want to try 3rd party Defrag software...
Windows Defrag, Pass 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 Consolidating 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 & Trim 0% to reach 100%,
is crazy... each Pass seems 1 hour!.
many years ago DiskKeeper was very popular specially in 2009,
but Now has changed the name DymaxIO, and its a monthly payd subscription...
Not my kind.
im looking a Software that can Defrag ExFAT, because its a bridge to move files from MAC to Windows without purchasing NTFS for OSX driver or APFS for Windows driver from Paragon.
OSX reads NTFS but does Not Write.
Windows without Bootcamp drivers does Not Read & Write HFS Nor APFS.
Theres No other way... in real drive,
the other option is to have a 100% Virtual Drive, VMWare Fusion Player 12.1, or Parallels16 virtual drive, or Oracle VirtualBox drive.
but has limitations... No FireWire passthrough, etc...
Linux Ext4 does Not say....
but from tests ive done, Ext4 was faster than NTFS, but was Not fail safe with cancel when moving or powerloss.
Ext4 was very risky but faster.
W10 has GPT,
since OSX intel, has HFS+, New latest Mac since OSX Mojave has APFS, seems faster, snappy vs. HFS. OSX HighSierra can R&W APFS drives.
Linux Gparted does Not support ExFAT, very bad News...

Latency is affected by System Power Options or CPU load,
using CPU-Z Benchmark, can be seen very easy how Windows has "turbo"
Anyway...
Windows System Image Backup & Restore works flawless, BUT... Not easy...
Not for beginners.
Requires:
1x USB drive 2GB or 4GB, 8GB is overkill, maybe 1GB works.
1x HDD Backup drive: 1TB 2.5" 5400rpm works ok, with SATA-III or USB3.0.
1x Target Disk, my case was: Seagate ST1000LM049 2.5" 1TB 7200rpm.
1x source system disk, WD 500GB 2.5" 7200rpm.
Source hdd must be removed Before booting from USB Windows Restore boot drive.
in W8.1:
Control Panel / System Security / File History / System Image Backup / Create a System Image Backup
them Restore / Create a Restore USB drive.
Limits:
1. if Source hhdd / Windows drive was installed in a BIOS board,
System Restore Does Not work in a EFI Board.
= Not backward compatible = Problems.
2. Target disk must be disk0 = you need to move sata cables turned off or Bios options.
3. Target disk must be: Clean, in Diskpart command line.
4. Target disk must be selected before executing: Clean command.
> Diskpart
list disk
select disk0
list partition
select partition 1
list volume
select volume #
Clean
exit
Option B:
EaseUS Migrate OS feature from Partition Master 15.0 looks easy,
but Not Free $$$.
looks more simple, maybe has No Bios / EFI limit,
Does Not require USB drive and 1x extra Backup HDD.
but havent tested.
EaseUS Disk Copy is very bad, but Partition Master 15.0 is very good, better that Windows Disk Management = gparted usb boot drive is Not required to Clean drives "hidden partitions".
the only strange thing is that NTFS formatted with Gparted has smaller hidden system files 100MB, vs. Partition Master 15.0 NTFS formatted drive has 200MB hidden system files..
maybe gparted creates an older NTFS version.
Option 3:
Pirate Windows7 8 10 can be ReActivated after Cloning, and Maybe that solves the anti-cloning security issue,
but Legal OEM Windows, can only be activated 1x time...
Legal Boxed Full Retail version or Microsoft Store Purchased virtual license
can be moved as many times as you want..
can be ReActivated unlimited times in different boards, 1 at a time,
but Only with different Hardware.
cannot be forced to be ReActivated with same Hardware.
unless you Change Product Key in System, risking the Windows install.
Conclusion;
Windows is working flawless now,
but i like more OSX,
OSX Yosemite 10.10 Runs so smooth & fast with HD5770 at 60fps,
resizing multiple windows to fit a single screen, like windows dragging window top bar to the sides of the screen in OSX is done dragging from the green button, that was introduced in OSX EL Capitan 10.11.
but ProToolsHD 10.3.10 requires OSX Mavericks 10.9.5
OSX HighSierra breaks compatibility with HD5770 at 60fps, only works at 30fps or less.
but has APFS file system, that seems much faster than HFS+, more snappy.
New Windpos10 GPT file system i dont know, but NTFS requiring constant Defrag is crap.
useless for a Raid.
Kubuntu Groovy Gorilla looks very similar to Windows8.1
IF tweaking system visual options, has Dolphin file browser, i dont like, but can be replaced very easy to other file browser,
for basic things, browsing internet, email, OpenOffice / Libre Office, looking Netflix,
Linux is much better option than ¨Pirate Windows.
Ubuntu looks more like OSX in a weird way. i like more Kubuntu, Lubuntu is crap,
Xubuntu could be interesting Xfce desktop.
in homes / offices where multiple computers are needed, is much better to have a "home" server
and a software like: ibik Aster, Unraid-OS o NComputing.
1 computer many clients / terminals / users.

Wikipedia list is incomplete... there are many others...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_defragmentation_software
but from that list, the candidates are:
https://ultradefrag.net/en/index.shtml
https://sourceforge.net/projects/ultradefrag/files/stable-release/7.1.4/

https://www.raxco.com/home/products/perfectdisk-pro

seems that the Only Way to move Windows to another Drive is with a Microsoft Approved Tool,
like EaseUS or Windows System Image Backup

Mac on the other hand HFS file system does Not require Defrag software, its done in real time by OSX every time a file is Read or Write...
