Is it possible to create a backup image which contains 1 + 2 + 3(a), with the latter being decrypted. I've done 1 + 2 + 3 before but the sequence of operations makes me wonder whether my new request is possible. What I mean by this is as follows: I am asked to decrypt 3) as the final step before the backup begins. If 3) doesn't get unlocked before then, clonezilla can't see what's inside and I can't get to specify one of the logical volumes. I am also wondering whether lvm-selected images are possible at all.
Anyway, I thought it was worth asking. FYI, 3b is a bunch of data that I can easily copy back from elsewhere after a restore but it's too large to justify including in a clonezilla backup.

Technically I'm looking to exclude a whole LV which belongs to the VG.
At the final stage of preparation, Clonezilla asks to decrypt the VG which is /dev/sda3. However once that is done, all the LV's are automatically unlocked and the backup proceeds. There isn't any subsequent stage where I can deselect one of the LVs which is what I'm looking to do.
Right now what I have to do is: (i) clone LV2 which is 1.6TB. Then I delete it. The I run Clonezilla which now simply doesn't have LV2 as an available option. Then when it's over. I create a new LV2 and clone the backup back into place. As you can imagine, this involves several hours using 'dd'!

BTW, if you can provide a disk containing the partition and LVs from a VM, please share that. It will be easier for us to implement the feature you need.
Thanks.

I have a disk arranged as follows:
(a) lv1
(b) lv2

IIRC, to unlock the LV, Clonezilla will ask one by one. So what you meant is to choose just part of LVs?

OK, got it.
We will try to make it in the future release. However, it wont be in the new future since there are too many things to do here.

Steven, give me a few days to do that but I will. I'll mock up a dummy OS which replicates the partition structure I'm talking about. Thanks.
Actually Stephen I just emailed a link to your Clonezilla email.
It seems I did not receive that mail... Could you please send it again?
