I have an issue with restoring an image, however it could be something I am missing.
I am trying to restore the same image to many systems, the drives are configured for a hardware mirrored drive. Unfortunately 3 out of 4 times CloneZilla will not recognize that I have a hard drive installed. If I clear the partition manually it will work however it is not consistent if I don't. I am wasting tons of time rebooting, and rebooting.
Help...

Looks like maybe this is kernel supported problem.
Which version of Clonezilla live are you using ?
Maybe give testing or unstable Clonezilla live a try ?

The version that I am using is:
Clonezilla live 1.0.10-8
I am willing to try the unsable version.

Casper is resyncing files and caching reboot files... Please remove the disk and close the tray (if any) then press ENTER:
I wish I knew why it won't see the internal hard drive if the USB key is not shutdown correctly. Since I am restoring an image I really don't care what happens to the destination drives data and if a check is run.

Now there is a stable Clonezilla live 1.1.0-8 in stable branch, and it won't ask you to remove the boot media during rebooting/halting when you use an USB key to boot Clonezilla live.

I am using a really new image downloaded about 2 months old.
Here is how I fix it.
Reload Clonezilla, doing nothing but shutting down. Restart, now the Linux distribuion can see the hard drives.
I found what I am doing wrong... When it asks to remove removable media... DON'T do it, if I leave it in it works consistantly.

Could you please tell more details about "When it asks to remove removable media..." so that if it's a problem we can avoid that in the future.

I run into this issue if I pull the USB drive on my XP workstation and boot to the USB drive attempting to re-image something. At this point I don't even attempt an install the first time. I am wasting a lot of time rebooting.

The file Clonezilla searching for disk/partition is /proc/partitions, so you can check that by:
cat /proc/partitions
to see if the disk/partition is found by linux kernel without rebooting. Of course, USB key will be part of disk/partition list in /proc/partitions.
If the problem is really weird, and you are still using 1.0.X clonezilla live, please give 1.1.0-8 clonezilla live a try. It uses a newer kernel. Maybe it's better.
Good luck.

Hi,
I'm also new in using clonezilla and using ver 1.2.0-25 and i successfully created an image but when I restore it after completing it will just show a black screen and nothing happens. Pls help.
ITken,
You did not mention which OS you restored.
BTW, maybe you can check this:
http://drbl.sourceforge.net/faq/fine-print.php?path=./2_System/23_Missing_OS.faq#23_Missing_OS.faq
BTW, The OS is WinXp Pro SP2
addition to this is that i have 1 HD with a hidden partition of 5GB FAT32 and the primary is NTFS which is around 35GB
after so many trials, I manage to make it work I use -t1 option while restoring the image.
ITken,
So "-t1" works there ?
Please confirm that. Thanks.
