I have used clonezilla before on several occasions without any issue. However this time on a core2 Lenovo desktop I had an error message that keeps on coming up on the screen. I have noticed it on the boot sequence and when the clonezilla utility also starts. So far it doesn't seem to actually stop anything working. It just keeps coming up and obscuring the menus. The system doesn't seem to crash or anything. I have tried the other options such as failsafe but it still appears.
The error is something like: [125.248012] mei_me 0000:00:03:0: timer connect/disconnect timeout
This just keeps repeating. I just wondered if as the system seems to be working I can make an image anyway or if this is a serious fault . Any ideas and thanks for the support !

This looks to be kernel/hardware issue. You could try different versions of Clonezilla live: http://clonezilla.org/downloads.php
They come with different versions of Linux kernel, so it might help.

First:
Make a backup of your important data.
On Windows run: chkdsk c: [d:] /f [/r] (or so)
Take clonezilla and start Memtest86+ (it's for the RAM)
Can you make a look for the BIOS to check the voltages of the PC ?
Then use:
clonezilla and an external USB-drive for the image.

Steven - Yes thanks for the suggestion. I have used a variety of different builds including the x86_64 and i486 etc (the system is a core 2 duo). The error remained.
Update
In the end I have persevered through the error popping up. It still seemed to work so I thought I would push through and see if my system would restore the image to the replacement hdd. I'm pleased that it has worked ok, just had to put up with the error message obscuring the interface.
Thanks to all who gave some input and took the time to help.

Hi,
Thanks I'm running the test now to see if there are errors. This computer only runs Ubuntu. I was wanting to make a full image backup!

Hi Martin,
You could also refer to this:

i.e. blacklist the mei_me module.
