    Nilan - 2013-10-16

I am using device-image and trying to create a complete image from /dev/sda onto my external harddisk. There is enough space left for the image.

I am using -fsck-src-part. Other than that I am using default parameters.

The cloning process for sda1 and sda2 is successful, as well as the fsck for sda3.
However during the cloning of sda3, at some percentage (sometimes 38%, 50%, 83%...) a message appears: 'Checking the disk space... Failed to save partition /dev/sda3. Press "Enter" to continue......'

I can press "Enter" as often as I like, nothing happens. When I press Ctrl+Alt+Del it will need a long time to stop the cloning of sda3 and suddenly creating of bitmap of sda6 is showing. Then nothing happens and I am forced to do a hard-shutdown by cutting the power.

The relevant partitions to be cloned are sda1, sda2, sda3, sda6. All of them are ext2, ext3 or ext4. In total they are not bigger than 200GB used space and 1000GB total space.

The external harddisk has 80GB used space and 1000GB total space. That means there should be enough free space.

I am using a Clonezilla live USB with "alternative stable releases - 20130819-raring" version.

I tried it several times now and this is the same behaviour every time.

What does that error message mean? How can I fix this problem and clone the whole drive?

    Thanks for help.

    I think
there are any problems with the 1 TB external drive
    especially with the internal cache.
    Use an other external drive.
I have had the same errors with a 1 TB HDD with USB 2.0(used) and USB 3.0 .

    I don't have another drive.

The backup process works for 2 other PCs but not for this one. If it really "just doesn't work", then this is not satisfying, to be honest :(

I am awfully sorry. I had myself to bring back my new external drive.

Perhaps in your case it is an error of the internal PC cache. Here in 'clonezilla live' can you make a memory test for a longer time.
    Good luck!
