    Jeff Smithey - 2012-07-28

    I have read the forums and have looked over a lot of the information; however, have not been able to get any of the workarounds to work properly for me at all.

    I have used Clonezilla to check the image, and it says that it is able to be restored, at least 3-4 times checked (that\'s a VERY conservative number).

    I have used the Expert Mode and disabled the check disk size, I have done a lot of editting parameters via Expert Mode and still get error messages, with hints suggesting a corrupt image. The furthest I have gotten it to is the partcloning screen, which immediately fails and shows a block size that is larger than the available block size in the log.

    So, I got a new hard drive 320gigs, decided it was time to get all those videos off my 500 gig System Drive.

    Initial setup, before modifications:
    Hard drive #1: 500gig
    -> /dev/sda1 - 257(ish) Gigs - Windows Partition
    -> /dev/sda2 - the rest of the space - Videos
    * This is the hard drive to be backed up!

    Hard drive #2: 320 gigs
    -> /dev/sdb1 - 270(ish) Gigs - Videos
    -> /dev/sdb2 - 50 Gigs - OS_Backup
    * This is the new hard drive.

    Hard drive #3: 160 gigs
    -> /dev/sdc1 - 12 Gigs - Documents
    -> /dev/sdc2 - 70 Gigs - Music
    -> /dev/sdc3 - Remaining space - Miscellaneous

    Okay, so after successfully backing up ** the Windows partition on the first drive sda1 ** to sdb2.
    I then proceeded to copy all the Video drives folders sda2 to sdb1.

    (It was late at night and had been at this for awhile.)

    - I loaded Western Digital\'s Boot Diagnostics, accidentally clicking the second hard drive (sdb) and performed a quick format.
    *** Having no operating system, I quickly partitioned sda out with 1 primary and 4 extended partitions for data, installing Windows 7 Pro to sda1.
    - Realizing this mistake I immediately aborted and pursued data restoration programs.
    - Successfully getting back OS_Backup (sdb2). However, was unable to restore sdb1.

    So, now I have moved all contents from sdc drive to 3 partitions on sdb.
    Now, OS_Backup is seen as sdb1 even though it\'s at the end of the drive.

    So end a long story, if you read all this you\'re crazy, I just know more information the better response.

    I want to extract as many files as possible to sdc the 160 gigs from the OS_Backup sdb1. The files I am after would be files I was working with Photoshop in the Users folder.

    I have even tried unplugging the 500gig (sda), replacing it with the 160gig (sdc), seeing if I could trick it to thinking that it was sda; however, I have had no luck scouring the FAQs and Forums, or I lack a better understanding of what is to be done.

    Currently, I am installing openSuSE in VirtualBox to see if the Linux workaround will do the trick there; however, would definitely be open to responses as to the best method of doing this.

    So any updates there? The issue still remains there?

    Steven.
