    Hi,

I need to clone the OSX partition of my Macbook Air to an external hard drive. What do I need to do / settings do i need to chnage, to later be able to boot directly from the external hard drive into the cloned OSX? Meaning I want to boot the OSX on the external hard drive, so that the internal hard drive of my Macbook Air is not in use and I can carry out maintenance on the SSD of the Macbook.

I have been able clone the OSX partition to the external hard drive without any problems but I can't boot into it. When I start up the Mac, bring up the hard drive selection and chose the external hard drive the computer will still boot into the original OSX sitting on the internal hard drive.

So far I have only tried with clonezilla's standard settings suggested in expert mode, but I suspect that I might have to change some of the options. Unfortunately I don't really understand all of the options that are offered there and I couldn't  find any explanations here that would help me. Any ideas?

Just to give you some more information: I'm using the latest version of clonezilla and I'm also running Bootcamp with Win7 on this Mac - maybe this has something to do with why I can't boot from the cloned OSX on the external hard drive. In case it matters, I have only cloned the OSX partition to the external drive, the windows 7 partition doesn't matter to me at the moment.

    I would appreciate any help.

    Cheers,

    Mike

    Hi again,

I now used "SuperDuper" instead to create a bootable clone of my MAC OS on an external hard drive. This worked fine, to bad that I couldn't figure out how to do that with Clonezilla.

    Best,

    Mike
