I was wondering whether it is possible to view the contents of an image with clonezilla. I am able to list the contents of the image's gzip archive with zcat, but all I see is a huge file that is ~1GB in size. With Ghost, I am able to view and even modify the contents of an image with Ghost Explorer. Is there anything in Linux that would enable me to look into the inner contents of the image?

No. Sorry. Please check the FAQ/Q&A for why it's not.
